The Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful but slow. 100 miles of the BRP will take you 3-4 hours.

I’ve seen RVs on that damn road with 10+ cars trying to pass.

They should add passing lanes. Like a 1 or 2 mile quick opening to clear jams like that. The RV gets over and everyone passes then it funnels back to 1 lane

If you like scenic cruises on the hwy, do yourself a favor and drive from Vancouver to Whistler. By far the most beautiful drive I’ve ever experienced

Jody,
The Blue Ridge Parkway is lovely, but is a lot slower drive than you would expect it to be. Take it coming back home.

Visiting the WWII memorial is something my husband really enjoyed as well as the reconstructed canal from when early settlers were trying to equal Europe in using boat to get across the country.

The Blue Ridge Parkway

I did it! 70 miles heading south bedore Roanoke, VA.

I will never do that again. Scariest thing I've ever done or happen to me.

Beautiful views but I'm afraid of heights. Driving up a hill an the next thing you know I'm 3,500 feet up in The Blue Ridge Mountains driving on the road that is as wide as a Golf Cart path with two cliffs on each side.

Holy frick!

Did the trace on my motorcycle. Started off nice. Got real boring real quick. Speed limit is too slow. Too much of the same view on the lower half. Upper was better.
Came back other routes. Glad I did it. I will only do sections from here on out.

How are the roads? Condition-wise.

Gravel. Just like the interstates. Consider yourself lucky… the state roads are just dirt. County roads?? 4wd or don’t drive.

I rode it on my motorcycle 15 years ago or so with the leaves changing in fall. It is an awesome drive that I would also highly recommend.

Haven’t read the entire thread so apologies if already mentioned- but the drive that is #1 at the top of my List to attempt in the future is the Alaska Highway (aka The Alcan)- it’s a 1400 mi drive that starts above Seattle and goes all the way up thru Canada to Fairbanks AK…. If you google the images , the views look spectacular.. cant wait to see them in person.. actually what i want to do in a couple years is start in Key West (southernmost USA) and drive all the way up to Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay AK (northernmost USA).. need a couple months to do it right and enjoy it .
