Is that real or an April Fool’s prank? Appears too over the top to be real.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it was fake and it wouldn’t surprise me if it was real.

Yep I remember hearing about it at the time, but I don't believe it was national news. Or at least, not extensively covered nationally.

It actually wasn't the first school shooting. There are school shootings on record as early as the 1840's. Most of the shootings back then were between students, a parent killing a teacher, a teacher killing a student or something of that sort. Not really "random" back then, but they did happen.

Yeah, I knew it wasn't the first school shooting. I couldn't remember if it received any national recognition or not. But, when I googled it today, I was reminded that it made the front cover of People magazine in November 1997.

Being on April 1 and being so over the top just made me think it was a prank.

As a parent of a child in a school shooting, (my child was un injured) in the early part of the century in the state of Tennesee, I feel I can speak to this from the view point of experience. My child was 14 years old when the shooting took place.
She is a well adjusted adult, with different political and religious views than my own. She is, and was at the time of the shooting gay. She is a conceal carry permit holder, votes democratic, but because of our ability to respect each others opinions, we remain a loving and caring family. She understands that the weapon used was not the cause, and can easily assign blame to the mental state of the person who decide to bring the weapons to the school. I can only hope that eventually, as a society we all view these events as clearly as she is able to.

After watching that video, I notice officers in jeans and t shirts.

Were these guys likely working an undercover detail or off duty cops that happened to be in the area?

She fully supports law enforcement, has more conservative views than one would imagine and is raising her children much as she was. She is all that I could hope my child to be, respectful, responsible, and I am proud to say the product of good a good upbringing.
