Forget the word "assault rifle" then.
I'm in favor of banning any weapon that is made for the sole purpose of killing mass numbers of human beings.
No one needs a military grade weapon. I'm not saying take away guns and people can defend themselves but no one needs an AR-15 for home defense.
But again, I don't think that's ever going to happen so instead, I'm just proposing that gun laws become so severe and restrictive that it starts taking people off the street.
1. Use a gun in committance of a crime and mandatory 30 years. Oh boo hoo, minorities will be impacted. DGAF
2. Raise the age limit of non-hunting weapons to 21 with no loopholes and more stringent background checks, including drug tests that check for not just narcotics but meds that make people aggressive.
3. Figure out some kind of way to fairly screen people for mental health.
4. Start prosecuting those who don't lockdown their weapons.
