Probably something stupid like drinking and driving or getting caught with substances.

He might have gone clean when he went in, but now that he's on the outside, who knows.

That's what happens to a lot of non-hardened folk who end up in prison. People go in clean and come out junkies.

I'm sure he owes favors to disreputable folks.

He was only on for like 3 months. He's probably not that bad off from such a short stint in the clink.

Think what the first week in prison was like for him and how fast someone can be a junkie.

How do you think that kid did with murderers and rapists? You think by week 2 this kid was making good choices?

Did he really?

Kid may have been an a-hole but Gruver was responsible for his own death.

That... Or the last three months were the worst time of his life and he is going to do everything possible to avoid going back.

Except you know nothing about a jail sentence. He was most likely on work release and worked a minimum wage job and only spent the night in jail and went back to work in the morning. He would be held with other nonviolent and similar race cell mates. Since he was actually convicted and not waiting for a trial, he would be held with 2 cellmates max. He forfeited his right of an appeal and decided to revoke his own bond doing so. Their is no way his attorney didn't set up a cush jail sentence in return of a plea deal of revoking your appeal

He was the scapegoat for all the others involved who sold themselves to avoid spending a night in jail.

Lots of incorrect assumptions here. When you’re only expected to do a short stint, they usually won’t put you in work release because it takes awhile to process and learn whatever your job is going to be, so they look for people expecting 1-3 years left to make it worthwhile.

Also, DOC inmates are not required to be with 2 cell mates max. He was very likely to be in a dorm of 80 people. Because age is a factor In determining which dorm he’d be in, he was very likely with the 18-25-Ish inmate which prove to be the most violent of the population. I’d be interested if he stayed at a parish jail or ever made it through processing to get to Hunts or Dixon. It would have been easier for him there. Even DC-2!in Rapides parish would have been a good spot for him to be on a work crew and allowed a few extra privileges so a little more discipline there. He’s perfect candidate for trusty or internal job, like chow hall or laundry.

If he sat on Q line in EPBPP, then he had a rough couple of months. He’s not gonna be looking to end up back behind bars. That’s a hard lesson learned.
