Conquistador. Womanizer. Warrior for Christ. This man lived a life. Dude banged any chick he wanted, helped the Spanish Empire conquer Cuba and was made a mayor and given land and slaves for his troubles. He went one step too far by fooling around with the governor’s sister-in-law and got out of dodge before facing the consequences. How did he do that? He cashed in his fortune for a fleet of ships and 300 men in a bid to conquer Mexico for Spain. Against all odds he does it, gaining all the fame and gold he could ever want, conquering the greatest empire the Americas had ever seen to that point in the process.
Amazon Prime is in the process of making a miniseries about this guy and boy does he deserve it.

There is a Statue of Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes in the plaza of the same name in Medellin, Extremadura, Spain. He owned slaves. The clock is ticking.

The victors always tell the story. You may not like it but dem's the rules. Oh, and by the way, the cultures those victors usurped? They weren't exactly best buds. It's always been conquer or be conquered. It always will. No amount of gnashing of teeth will ever change that.
