Poarch Creek Indians are about to open a new one in Foley, AL.
Name is OWA,having to do with the name of their tribe. Stupid choice. How do you say it? What kid is gonna get excited and bug his parents to go to OWA? It sounds like a government agency.

Astro World - Houston, Texas
This was a Six Flag park. I think we bought season tickets and took our kids several times the last year of operation. They always had great concerts, which were free with the admission price. I was always surprised how uncrowded the park was, especially being in a city the size of Houston.
Ultra Twister FTW!
I think it closed because the area around it got ghetto as the white people suburbs moved further out to BW8 (and now to TX99 in some parts)

Look at my post on page four. An excerpt from the Daily World that I posted. It was called Ride-A-Slide. I think the location is near the South campus of OGHS (formerly Doctor's Hospital). Definitely got skinned a few times myself.
That's correct, on the east side and if I remember correctly, there is a nursery (which sold palm trees) there or was there in its place.
Yep, nursery is still there: Google Street View
ETA: Didn't see your second reply with Ride-A-Slide.
Anyone recall Carnival Beach? It was located somewhere between Sunset and Lafayette. I've never been there but one of my uncles used to go there. Never knew what it was about as he never told me anything about it.

I ran in similar circles.
Conneaut Lake Park has opened and closed many times. Originally a "trolley stop park".... It has an early Wild Mouse Coaster...a wonderfully terrible Dark Ride - The Devil's Den... "with infamous gum wall" and a rare, but important fun house (now too dangerous to access).
The biggest attraction was the Blue Steak roller coaster... which was scary due to how run-down it is/was.
Blue Streak POV
Some "Dark Ride" history.

Astroworld and Waterworld. Would follow those days up with an Astros game. Good times.
I can also remember thunder bird beach and the big red slide.
Anybody remember the 2 water slides off 4-H club rd in Denham Springs? My mom would drop my brothers and I off there for hours. This was in the mid 80s.
We also would spend hours at a small water slide park in Surfside Beach, Texas. Good times.

It was Ride-A-Slide he was referring to. What was at Carnival Beach? I mentioned it a few posts above.

Carnival Beach was family amusement area with a 10 acre or so man-made lake with a sandy bottom near Sunset. You paid admission, and got to swim, have picnics, etc. There was a big slide, diving platforms, some food venues, etc. I remember a big orange dragon statue in the lake that sprayed water. Keep in mind that back then, very few folks had pools. It was essentially a dressed up swimming hole. Think Thunderbird Beach, minus the rides.
It's been many, many years, but I think I remember that there was a honkytonk on property that sold beer and had bands. That last bit might be my imagination.
I also remember going to that ride-a-slide. Those concrete waterslides would peal your hide off.

VisonLand near Birmingham, AL.
It was started and stopped a few times. They finally sold off all the rides. It is now a water park only called Alabama Splash Adventure.

Astroworld.
Twenty bucks for a season pass in 1976 and biked there every day from Spring Branch. The loaves of bread were GOAT. Best way to cool off was the Alpine ride or the Horizons theater

Alabama Splash Adventure has a few rides, including the Rampage wooden roller coaster. The Rampage was recommisioned a few years ago.
