it's especially ironic because almost assuredly the thing that follows the word "literally" is not literally happening

I literally can't even today. I need $500 for office space, $2000 for children's therapy, $1200 for child #2's hospital.....Venmo, paypal, etc me @ ..... I have no shame in asking for money. It is literally how the world works

If you actually want the word "literally" to mean what it is supposed to mean, you have to throw in a "quite" in front of it now.

I quite literally get nauseous when I smell pickles.

That is a true statement and I actually get nauseous when I smell pickles. I don't know why.
