No I wouldn't actually do it. I'd troll them into thinking I was doing it.

Then I'd act sketchy as hell around ya'll IRL

For one moment take yourself out of the kid's shoes and put yourself in the parent's shoes. You're the father of a 14 year old kid and you've just given him his first cell phone. What do you say and do? How do you teach and guide him here?

(Full disclosure: I'm the father of a 12 year old who just got his first cell phone a few months ago)

This phone is a privilege, not a right. I pay the bills, so the phone is available for my inspection at any time and can be taken away for failing to do well in school, chores, etc.

DONE.

this backdoor spying shite is the stuff of pathetic losers who dont know how to LEAD.

Congrats, you sounds truly blessed. But, now go back and read your post and tell me how I was supposed to glean that from the bat-shite crazy stuff you were rambling about previously. You just came off as being on full tilt when you posted:

quote:

It isn't unsolicited you clown. She installed the app, and PAYS for the service to the tune of 50 bucks a year.

quote:

She is actively asking for suck images to be sent to her. For example, I can't go into an illegal gun suite with a thousand dollars, then claim I didn't mean to get an illegal gun if it gets raided.
.

lol, seriously doc? Employers can generally access their own computers and Internet systems and read their employees' work emails whenever they like. Here we are talking about a parent that purchased a phone and pays the monthly services for the kid so this is the parent's phone and data services.

quote:

So you been sneaking underage kiddir pics too, through your kids phone?

quote:

Best of luck when you go to jail and they seize your house, pedo

If that is not some crazy shite, then I give up........Doc.

After all that angst and gibberish you now close with:

quote:

My point is you are giving the op faulty advice. I'm sorry if your opinion doesn't match up with the law or current trends in prosecution. Dint be angry at me and lash out with ad hominem attacks...Just accept the fact that you are wrong.

Hey man, you started the crazy, hate train, not me. I didn't give the OP any faulty advice or advice contrary to laws, I just gave a personal view that you very much didn't like..............at all.

Glad you're back from the edge.

Well, I would do as my parents did. I'd establish a trusting adult relationship with my son. I wouldn't be afraid to tell him things, or hear things from him. Hopefully, I would trust him enough to say here you go. Don't do anything stupid, and that be enough.

It's what my parents did with me, and I had enough respect for them not to frick my life up, because they raised me right.

I hope the kid figures it out by 16, then he has a perfect alibi to do whatever the frick he wants. He will probably go buy a burner to make his drug deals and secure booze, set up parties etc.

On the spy phone he will only receive shite like "where should we study tonight".

Why not tell the kid that the app exists. THEN, it is simply monitoring.

This. Got our 12 year old a phone, no smart phone, just for calls and texts when he's at ball practice etc. We told him straight up that we will look at the phone/texts and this is our phone he is using. This was the conditions before he got it.

I think what the mom is doing is not the best way and could be handled much better but good gosh some of you talking like its ok for them to send nudes at 14.

Your wife is very smart. Teens today are really stupid but have access to the world in their pockets. Keep an eye on that kid as long as you can

Same.

My parents never asked to see my phone or computer. As far as I know, they never searched my room.

If you don't ever let them fall, how are they supposed to learn how to get back up?

WTF is wrong with parents these days?

What's Johnny going to do when mommy isn't there anymore to hold his hand? he's going to FAIL, that's what. But don't worry about that, we all fail. The problem is after he Fails he's not going to know what to do.

Vader mine is 14 and has had a phone since 10 himself. From the first day and even until today he is made aware that there is a GPS app that is never to be turned off and that I have full rights to look at his phone whenever I want. As far as I know he has done a good job with the responsibility. With the extra curricular activities he is involved in, without a phone it would be a lot harder to communicate solutions to transportation issues as well as a bunch of other stuff.

When he was 8 he was pitching on an all state travel team and we practiced 6 days a week with 8 different coaches and played every weekend for 2 years. Then the surgery came for his arm at 10 and when we started dealing with all the doctors and lawyers I knew it was at that point we had to do the right thing as parents and get him a phone.
