I swear the only folks who say that unironically are the ones most insecure about being in charge. Real leaders don’t need to flex like that. Give me a boss who listens and adapts over some wannabe drill sergeant any day

I concur.
You can literally spot those who have lead and those who have not by reading these post.
There are a lot of my way or the highway guys in here. Lead by destroying creative thinking because someone wants something done a certain way that is not important.
Quite hilarious.

Yikes. There are levels of, you know, materiality etc. to consider. Also, process and procedure. Could be costing the institution a lot of money just doing the my way or the high way thing.
That kind of thing primarily happens at low level jobs, grunt work, entry positions, etc...where it really is best to just do it the best way known, which the boss knows.
Mid level on up, that doesn't really happen, not in successful operations.

Once more over the top boys, and the hun will be whipped!
The Psychology of Military Incompetence was a great book, and you can see the same traits in one boss after another.

How old are you? You can’t be very old if you’ve never heard management say some stupid shite.

One area where the upcoming generation seems to be very weak is in understanding the value of hierarchy and authority. It’s almost seen as a dirty word in subsets of the generation just entering the workforce, despite being an ancient principle evolved specifically to allow social systems to function and grow.
Yes, a good boss should take feedback from the ground level and incorporate that into their decision making. But the ground level employees should trust that the boss has a wider perspective on challenges than they do, and should therefore be deferential in any disagreements. Staring your case is perfectly fine. But if the boss says no, then you defer and abide by their directives. Social systems break down otherwise.
Said another way, Jonathan Haidt argues that there are six universal principles crafting humanity’s moral foundation. And young Americans seem uniquely willing to completely throw away three of them. Are we confident that society continues to thrive if they succeed?…
Edit: well hell, I seem to be completely unable to post pictures for some reason now. Anyone else finding it glitchy? Anyway, here’s the link to the picture instead…

Exactly. People stating their boss listens and takes feedback, which is great, seem to forget they still hold that “my way or the highway” card. Unfortunately, there are employees that didn’t have fathers that manned up and taught them right.

If I’m saying ‘it’s my way or the highway’ then I don’t want your input
So it my way, I am the boss, or get out
If you don't want input from other people, then you aren't a very good "boss"

It has to be pre 1990 for someone to say this phrase sincerely

I’ve had plenty of jerks over me. If they aren’t overstepping any personal boundaries, you just have to fight through it. I have a damn good retirement now and that’s all behind me. Focus on the goal.

The operations manager for the company tells people all the time, "if you don't like it, pack your shite and there's the door." He's a 31 year old baby back bitch that inherited a construction company from his mommy and daddy and acts as though he built the world in 7 days. He says incredibly rude, condescending shite to grown men in and women in an office environment often, but the best part is he dicks off a large portion of the work week and barely shows his face until it's time to get bids out. So you get your insults in small doses at least. I would not hang out with him in any capacity outside of work.

Had a boss who had very crazy habits (my opinion) on how he organized his week and priorities. A silly system he called “Wildly important goals” that involved submitting some form to him each week. Didn’t help improve outcomes at all. He expected all of us (adults all 35+) to adopt these habits. He more or less told me “my way…” so I began looking for a new job. I got an offer and the day I was going to turn in my resignation, he was fired for violating company policy.

Fred Durst.

Or Joe from Reservoir Dogs.

Or Tommy "the Machine" Gunn from Rocky 5:

Yes, I did. She also bragged openly how she had a close friend in HR that he worked with to "ruin the careers of those who don't follow my orders, right or wrong".
Being that she was a female and her HR friend was a black female, she got away with it to the tune of forcing as many as 12 people out. I left shortly after that meeting. Being a white male, I knew my time was up. It ended being the best thing that has ever happened to me in my career. This was 18 years ago.
A couple of years after I left, she got a new boss that saw through her and made her leave.
