This may sound like a good thing but she is very shy and can’t relate to kids her age.

That happens. She's probably in her own head a lot, and has interests that aren't going to align with her current "peer" group. Get her in a gifted program with kids more on her level.

She found kids she could relate to at a summer camp this year but they were all way too focused on “progressive lifestyles” which was poisoning her mind.

Have any of you had experience with this sort of thing?

Yeah. School is boring period, much less when you already know most of what is being taught. That age is awkward for everybody, much less when you're not going to relate well with the peer group. Get her in a program to challenge her more, with kids more like her. Encourage her to chase her passions and do extra curricular activities that interest her. She'll run into kids with similar interests.

I need help.

You do. You've got a near/actual genius daughter and you are scared to put her in a position to maximize that potential because you're worried about communist indoctrination in LA schools? If if that concern was remotely rational, what's the worst that would really happen? She becomes a liberal? The horror!

Send her to a good private Catholic school. Problem solved. That was easy.

Jesus Christ man. You’re child is ultra gifted. Get her into the best damn school you can. If you’re worried about Marxist indoctrination fricking talk to her, Engage with her, interact with her. If she’s so smart she should be able to see though the Marxist veneer and realize people will not allow it to work.

Progressive lifestyles positioning her mind is not something you should worry about. Every teenager is an idealist. Stay involved in her life and discuss her ideals with her. If she’s as smart as you’re claiming she will eventually come around.

Basically what I’m sayin is be a damned parent and get your child the best education. Overall you shape her world view just as much as some teacher

Do the rest of the world a favor and keep her in the main group of students.

It will teach her to overcome her issues with stupid people and keep her from becoming an intellectual elitist who is unemployable.

Where in the hell did you send your child!?!?!

Osama's Abortionplex Pinko-Sodomy House Summer Camp was clearly a poor choice.

Whoaaaaa, slow your roll. It's not that difficult to be tested as Gifted. It's a good thing, just not like everyone who does is Einstein. Plenty of very smart people who never test into the program too.

We discuss the pitfalls of toxic leftism frequently. She is actually at a small classical school right now. They learn history rather than social studies. She learned all about the 100 million people that were murdered by Mao, Stalin and yes Hitler. Come at me if you think Hitler was a right winger!

I was in gifted from third grade all the way through high school. There was no Marxist conditioning.

I can see that the people who actually work have shown up.

I won’t say the name of the camp.

Hitler was an ultra ultra right winger. Fascism and communism result in the same oppression just take different paths to get there. Communism is a “flat society” or is at least billed as that with no heirarchies and everyone equal (well except for the communist. They’re better than you)

Fascism is the rigid heriarchal structure to the point where there is no upward or downward mobility.

Both equally oppressive and both equally unfair. But fascism is notedly right wing

Ah. So you don’t want any other indoctrination to get in the way of yours. Gotcha.

both of my kids are "gifted" (it must skip a generation), and both go to Advanced Studies Academies in Jefferson Parish. The vast majority of those kids are weird, but nothing to be alarmed about.

And all of the teachers they have had have been too busy teaching to worry about political angles.

One of their friends moved to BR and the kid goes to Dunham School, but tested one grade above where his age tells you he should be.

There are options, you just have to find them.

Send her to a parochial school like St Joseph's in BR, La. I assumed that's where you are from.

Then you are far less likely to have her influenced by the whole gender weird crowd.

My 12 year old has recently tested 3 standard deviations above the mean in both verbal and nonverbal measures. This may sound like a good thing but she is very shy and can’t relate to kids her age.

She is struggling in school because she feels that the material is pointless. She is depressed and isolated. She found kids she could relate to at a summer camp this year but they were all way too focused on “progressive lifestyles” which was poisoning her mind.

I was gifted, and I went through the New Hampshire public school's gifted programs until I moved to Louisiana. As someone who was gifted, Louisiana public schools were so damn easy I didn't even have to study, which helped build some horrendous habits for college.

In short, get her into challenging stuff, and just talk to her about what she's learning.
