Exactly. In fact, the "why does Gen X get off the hook" articles are already starting.

And then in 25 years everyone will look back at your generation and not understand how you all allowed trillions to be stolen. Every generation shits on the previous. It's just now the younger generations are soft as baby shite and have an outlet like the Internet to bitch about it.

We were taught a work ethic and to not live outside our means. It's served me well.

I’m not old enough to draw SS but paid at or close to the maximum amount in SS taxes most of my career.

Y’all keep saying this and it seems extremely rare

But refuse to blame the younger generations for advocating and voting for the same if not an acceleration of it? When the obvious fix is less spending and a stronger dollar.
I acknowledged that they were not blameless.
Can you not read?
This has been building for decades.
The conservative boomers have had 50 years to address this.
2017 was when Millenials overtook them.

I am C-suite at my company, make 6 figures and while I have been able to handle the mortgage and a reasonable lifestyle (no crazy trips, sensible cars average outings) some months are tight with nothing left over especially if there was an unexpected expense. This kind of situation would have been unreal back then, but they will keep romanticizing the bootstrap theory and good honest hard work.
Everyone is a C-Suite employee here on OT. So, if what you're saying is true, you would be making at least 300K per year (average for OT, right?). Do you have a 1M+ home (of course you do, because you would not be an OT baller, right)? I'm not sure the purpose of this thread when you think about the average net worth of the OT. Everyone is a multi-millionaire with multiple properties. Why are we complaining again? The reality is, most people here make <100K, but claim to make multiples of that.

Boomers were the first materialist generation and 50% have either no retirement or less than $250k.

Once again do you think I or other posters in this thread haven’t been doing the same thing?

You didn't have to be lucky or a financial genius just smart enough to recognize the time value of money and be disciplined enough to apply it through dollar cost averaging.

Funny as I had to start over DURING the financial crisis. I was a UPS driver until I got injured in a wreck in my personal car after falling asleep coming home one night. I went back to school, on my own dime while working nights, and started over professionally. Now how is that "luck"?
If I was still at UPS I'd nearly be retired with a pension

How did you pay your mortgage and bills?

Scruffy sounds like my dad in 1995 telling me you don't invest in the stock market when it's at an all time high.
Good thing I listened to my dad and have 30 years of savings hidden in my mattress. Once the market dips back below 5000 I'm ready to get in!
They have predicting a collapse since then.

I pretty much laid it out. I had a good paying job. Had a wreck. Hurt my back. Tried to tough it out for 6 months or so to continue. Couldnt. Went back to school in accountancy. Graduation was in the middle of the financial crisis. Finally found employment. Now work solo.

No mortgage during this time. Lived with 2 roommates in an apartments. I already said I worked nights.
Anything lucky about that?

Doing all the heavy lifting there, Mr. Lolbertarian.
AirBnBs in residential areas are by and large a total disaster as the owners don't care about the neighborhood and neither do the tenants.
AirBnBs should be heavily regulate just like hotels. If the cities receive enough complaints from neighbors, your permit is pulled and you can't operate any longer.

You got luckier than I thought
Hell of a comeback in 15ish years though
