You don't have to do anything about runners toe. Just let it heal over the next couple of months.
Further, pay closer attention to your socks. Bunched socks can lead to runners toe

I had that with a thumb that was nearly crushed by a full keg. The idea of a needle or drill bit did not appeal to me as I could see either one getting away and going deep into the thumb. What I did was get a razor blade and heat it with a flame to disinfect. When it cooled some I put one of the ends on the nail at a 45 degree angle and rotated it until the blood squirted out. It only took a few minutes to work through the nail and there was no chance of it going too far. And I lost the nail a few days later.

I had this problem. My wife wanted to do exactly what you wanted to do. I went to a podiatrist instead and he said it was a good thing she didn’t stick a needle under the nail. He said the nail was black because it was bruised and that there was no blood blister under the nail to pop. He said she would have been piercing my skin for no reason whatsoever and the only thing that would have come from it would have been an infection.

It's either let you do it or lose the nail, slowly and painfully

Find the smallest drill bit you have and spin it back and forth between your fingers slowly on the nail until you break through. It sounds bad but it's much easier than shoving a red hot pin through the nail. I've done it everytime I've got blood under a toe nail from running and never had a problem.

Is that a euphemism?

Welcome to the world of running. You can spin a needle and it will eventually pierce the nail and bed.

I've always used a needle heated to glowing red then melt right through the nail in one second.
Getting the pressure relieved from the blood was always more appealing than going to deep. Idgaf

My suggestion would be to rig a collar/ limiter on the needle where it could only go so deep before it bottoms out on the collar. This would probably work better for the drill bit method because heating the needle would be next to collar so it would need to be heat resistant. With a drill bit you can overlap tape to build a shoulder and this will limit the depth of penetration.

Honestly just wait till she's a sleep and render her some help.

Get the dewalt out with the smallest bit you can buy and do it. That’s what I did

Same here but you don't even need the drill lol, just twist it between two fingers and you can't even feel it.

Did the same thing, particularly with one of those long adjustable blades that you break at an angle when the edge goes dull.

I think people just don’t understand that a red hot needle or paper clip melts through a fingernail or toenail like going through butter. There is no burn involved, and once you get the blood out, it feels so much better.

After you get it cleaned up, paint the nail with polish to keep crap out of it. The nail will come off in a week or two typically. It’s a completely painless procedure.

I’ve done the whole hot paper clip melting a hole in my toenail before and it worked but did hurt some.

A better alternative is to use a very small drill bit and just twist it in your fingers back and forth. Does not hurt and very quickly makes a small hole. In fact, let her do it so she can control the situation. Have paper towel ready, the blood will shoot out.

Let me help you out here bro, your old lady doesn’t really want you to help her. I know this is hard to wrap your head around right? She’s in pain, you can make it more tolerable, she doesn’t want this. What she wants is sympathy. It took me a long time to learn this lesson. Just give her a little sympathy and go about your business.
