We lost power for 10-12 hours when it was single digit temps and snowing last year. Thankfully we have a fireplace that emits crazy heat. It would’ve been pretty wicked if we didn’t have that.

Yea one of my HVAC units went out the night before the snow hit. The other units worked OT to keep the whole house warm.

I've had power out for a week before. You should take this as a lesson to be better prepared and not to rely on everyone else. Do you own blankets, wool clothes, spare water, food? Probably should.

Yea I put off a generator because I'm afraid I'll need a monster to run everything. I have 12 tons of ACs. Not sure what size generator I need.

You could get a portable generator in the 15,000 watt range and have a transfer switch/inlet installed for, I’d guess, $2,000-2,500 or so total. That would let you feed your house, keeps lights on, fridge/freezers cold, run the well pump/septic aerator (if you have those) and run a window ac or space heater or two in some limited spaces in your house for comfort. You don’t have to drop the money to run your entire house without interruption and you don’t have to suffer extended power losses during hurricanes and such either. There is some middle ground.

3 hours seems like a fast response. At least that’s been my experience with electric companies. They suck

I wish we had options in Louisiana.

Where can you go that lets you choose your grid operator?

Exactly. I have a 6500w portable generac and had my house wired with a 30 amp plug outside. I can run everything in my house (with the exception of the central HVAC. I can run my water heater, stove, dryer (not all at the same time) but we get by for hurricane season. I have three window units we pop in and they cool my house pretty good.

So what you’re saying is the problem may be a little bit more complicated than when you first bitched like a little pussy?

I still stand by being curious why it took 3 hours for the first crew to show up

Literally none of that is true, little man.

He just makes up shite as he goes along. And for some reason, likes to appear that he keeps copious notes on all the other posters, ready to pull something out of his arse at any moments notice. VERY classic short man's syndrome.

He didn't start following me around until I made a thread about a short accountant being arrested and asked if it was Mingo. Since then, he can't wait to try to make up bullshite about me.
