There are still BUD's (big ugly dish) in use, but they don't have the capabilities they use to. I had one many years ago and it was great. When they started to scramble the channels I was able to get a code each month that got them back working. There was even a huge monthly guide book showing what was on.

I`m sure they can also act as an antenna if their internet goes out and won`t be up for days or like Youtube tv did and remove some local channels until a horseshite deal gets reached.

My uncle had one of these growing up. My and is sons would sleep upfront on the weekends so we could "watch a movie".. The movie being going through all the porn stations because they all "scrambled", but you could still catch a 5 second glimpse off and on. We would spend 3 hrs to watch maybe a minute of porn... Actually that was reels before that was a thing. 5 second boob shot here, 7 second had job there.

The CEO of TCI lived next door to my uncle on the outskirts of Denver in the 80's. He had three satellite dishes in his back yard.
