My family has had 3 dachshunds down through the years and we loved them to death. Never had one bite anyone, never had one act like an a-hole or anything like that. We found them to be loyal, lovable, and protective.

Why was your dog in a cage? How old & dumb are you I can tell by your skin that dog will out live you. Let that sink in it’s a kennel, that’s the dogs space UNLESS you are some dolt that locks the dog up in the cage to discipline it because you are borderline Somalian & can’t teach the dog anything. Maybe it’s your wife’s or kids dog & you have this repressed hatred of them. Never reach into a cage! You can reach into a kennel but not a cage or you will get bit.

People taking a dog bred to fight the baddest of animals and putting it in a cage with ribbons on their collars is the list white people shite ever. I’m glad he bit you dumb arse
For the record their size is to go down badger holes and fight them. So you put him in a small area he’s bred to attack in. Startle him and then get what’s coming. But it’s the dogs fault because people aren’t stupid right???
Also I grew up where if a dog bites a human he’s dies to kill the gene. So kill it but know you’re the reason he bit you. Idiot

This is probably a case of, “know the unique things about your breed of dog”.
As long as the dog otherwise has been fine I wouldn't worry too much about it just let it be and know not to reach in his crate again like that
No need to take it out on the poor guy

I have a story no one would believe about a Doberman vs our dog Simon but I'll tell it anyway.
Loose Dobby in our front yard. Little brother walks outside unaware of Dobby. Dobby is snarling, has brother against fence, face to face.
Simon, known to climb the chain link fence, does so, runs under Dobby & locks up on his junk. Dobby drops hind legs, running and wailing with his front legs. He drug Simon down the street all the while Simon is still locked and shaking/trying to rip his junk off. Few minutes later Simon came home strutting his stuff in middle of the road.

Stop being a puss, you probably scared him .
Dogs don't have hands to push people back when they get too close so they bite.
We had a chiweenie who bit everyone in our house at least once.
He was my side kick for 13 years and bit me more than once.
If you can't handle a dog get a cat

Damn that’s messed up! mine has never so much as growled as us before.
She lives a life of luxury though.

Were both areas caused by bites, or was the top area a result of scraping the crate on the way out?

My daughter has one. She doesn't appear to have a mean bone in it's body but I still shared this thread with her.

Never touch a man’s duck.
I’ve had a bunch of them growing up throughout my life. Females were never aggressive. I’ve had two males that were super aggressive. One bit several people, he belonged to my parents, and I blame them for not fixing him. He was hell on wheels. Only black one that we’ve ever had.
My daughter currently has a male and he had tendencies like the one my parents had. Very head strong and would get very aggressive when it was something he wanted. We had him fixed when he was one and he’s fine now.
I have a male that is super sweet and docile. Never had him fixed, never bit anyone. Hes very very food oriented though.

Pitbulls>Pussy bitch Daschunds
The difference between these is the owners. Lots of normal people have Daschunds. I've never met or seen a Pitbull owner that wasn't significantly, and even blatantly, trashy.

We've got a female mini long haired and she's not aggressive though she will bark at new people coming into the house that she doesn't know. But coincidentally she'll also get mad and bark when people hug because she knows that means they're leaving.
We have to put her in a high chair at our Packers bar because she's not allowed around bigger dogs (mom's rule).

That's such a tired trope that always gets rolled out in these threads. Yes, there are lots of trashy pitbull owners, but there are also lots of good people who own them (I have a few friends who have one). And the nature part of it is much stronger...it's genetics.
Does a golden retriever owner have to teach their dog to love the water? Does a dachshund owner have to teach their dog to burrow? No. It's genetic. And so is the fact that pitbulls are larger and stronger with a more devastating bite than just about any other dog (they were bred specifically to have those traits).
ETA: OP, you on blood thinners?
