Sorry to hear this. A stroke is tough thing. My dad survived one a couple months ago at 53.
I feel you on the doctor preparing you for the worst. They did the same for us. That was the worst day of my life.
You can't put a whole lot of stock in what you're seeing right now. Let the swelling in the brain go down and let him get into rehab and you'll begin to know what you're working with. Having a support system and a great rehab team is huge. Our lives will never be the same, but it won't be near as bad as the "prepare the family for the worst" talk that they gave my mother.
No lie, he called me as I was typing this to tell me he's headed home from rehab.

Whoa now....medicine for mental illness is a real thing. For some people....the chemical imbalance they have that causes their depression, etc NEEDS to be treated with medications. Some people won't even be open to counseling until they have been on meds for a little bit.
I say this as a Christian. God doesn't want us to shy away from modern medicine and science.

At best, if there is a God, he is a vindictive, cruel a-hole.
All life is born, lives a while and then dies. Whether it is birds, trees, dogs or humans. The Intelligence that created this Universe is indifferent. It's just the nature of nature. Everything is animated by the same eternal force/spirit so nothing really is born or dies. It is just an illusion of this physical dimension. I know that may not bring comfort to most but it does give some perspective if nothing else.

I’m sorry, is anybody promised to live forever? Did God promise us after our fall from grace that we would be immortal and that he reneged on that deal? No? Then I’d say since we all die, it’s not unfair that a 20 year old died anymore than an 80 year old dying. It sucks and it’s harsh, but that is what happens to all living things. They die.

It means exactly what it says, if as a lot of people believe, there is a god that can control who lives and dies, but still lets children die often in the most agonizing manner possible, why would anyone worship and praise such a god?

You are so wrong about this . God doesn’t kill anyone or cause any diseases or accidents. It’s just all part of living and our life here is literally a blink of an eye compared to eternity.

First, I'm sorry about your brother. That sucks. But God didn't give your bro a stroke. Everyone's living a sad existence if one believes that God is basically a puppet master, killing good people with cancer, tornadoes, etc. Sometimes terrible shite happens. There's no reason to get mad at someone / something. We can only do our best to comfort those affected.
