I lived in SLC for a while and cannot recommend it enough. You get the benefits of a thriving major city and you're less than half an hour from world class outdoors.

I was going to suggest Vermont as they were offering $10k in grant money to new permanent residents who work remotely outside of the state. Unfortunately the program awarded all of the funds allocated to it back in January.
Some people may poo-poo VT for it's liberal and progressive political identity but not a lot of people live in the state and there's plenty of land and nature.

Yes, me/wife... first son was born there... you can get cheaper depending where you live but if you’re going to live in DC, might as well experience it the way it’s supposed to be and live downtown to walk everywhere or take metro as needed
I’d live there again if housing wasn’t so high and they wanted 1500$ per month for daycare
But young guy like yourself, you don’t need roommates anymore... just go to Colorado

If your job requires a solid internet connection, I would definitely keep that in mind when looking at rural locales. A lot of them, even in touristy areas, have awful internet options.
Given your age and income level, you'd likely be able to find your fit in any major city, so it'd come down to geographical preference, or proximity to family and friends.

Me and the wife are considering getting an RV and going all over the USA for the next year or two since I work from home too. I just need a cell phone and internet connection and I am good. I am not sure if I am ready to be an RV guy at 40 but the thought of seeing the entire country entices me greatly.

Logistically it sounds like a nightmare
When do you drive? Weekends? Overnight? He’s still got work so it’s not like he can just knock it out on a Monday. And like he said he travels for work a lot so a moving livable space doesn’t seem doable given how much he needs to fly and move around
I’m sure the RV life is great when you’re married and retired, but it would be at the bottom of my list as a 27 year old single dude whose still working

At your age, single, and making that kind of money, if you are looking for outdoors life that is different from PA, I would think Denver/Boulder. You'll have all the advantages a big city can give you while still getting the nature that Idaho or Montana could provide.
If you want a smaller city but still with things to do, maybe consider Colorado Springs.

Good climates, lots of stuff do to on weekends Good cost of living although Austin and Denver are getting pricey
