Also, there are more obvious signs that someone is a scammer than an out of state area code. Just do a quick google search on tips on selling things on craigslist. Insist on only accepting cash. I imagine that this would still hold true even for high ticket items. If they have a problem with this then they might be a scammer. If they are sketchy about delivery/pickup they might be a scammer.
You are being a bit stupid about this thing. Always do research before you act. In addition to other things do a little research into how the current scams work so that you can recognize the signs. That way you don't accuse people of being a scammer for plausibly legitimate reasons and scaring away potential sales. People are always going to low ball you. It's part of the nature of the site. Be prepared to negotiate, say no if necessary, or accept low offers if you are in a hurry to move something quickly.

5k is actually pretty reasonable for a high mileage sequoia.
