My ex boyfriend was the Dayton Shooter - article

This honestly made me mad. She writes about how sweet the shooter was and what a good guy he was. She couldn’t believe he would ever do such a thing, her first thought was it had to have been someone else. And then throwing in stories like this:
Yeah, definitely can see how you wouldn’t ever think he could do something like this. I know this isn’t her fault, but frick her. She had some responsibility to report someone who she knew had mental illness and fricked up thoughts/actions.
She goes on to end it by mentioning how the system is what failed here, that guns shouldn’t be allowed to be bought by those with mental illness (which I agree with). But she also is part of the system failure. You Recognize that we have a mental health crisis, yet you have no responsibility to report someone who you know has a mental health issue, access to guns, and wants to hurt people.

A couple of drinks later, Connor asked me if I saw the video of the synagogue shooting. As someone who makes a point to never watch those videos, I hadn’t. So, he pulled out his phone and I was too drunk to care that I was watching it. Thankfully the bar was too loud for me to hear what was going on. Connor gave me the play-by-play of what was happening. Even then, I did realize that that was a weird thing for a first date
quote:
I did catch bits and pieces among his topic jumping that he wanted to hurt a lot of people. He didn’t have any specific plans. I wrote it off as being a sad, drunk man who was afflicted by unchecked symptoms of mental illness. Under normal, sober circumstances, I didn’t believe he would feel like that.
quote:
When I pushed the subject further he told me that that was his ex-girlfriend’s house that he found through a picture on her Facebook. Then I asked to read the letter. I don’t remember the exact words, but it was something to the effect of “Welcome to the neighborhood. You can’t outrun your past. Signed, Your Neighbor.”
quote:
The only other example of those urges that I remember is burning down an abandoned building with his friends.

I'll refrain from judging someone who is clearly in denial in the wake of a former boyfriend turning out to be a mass murderer.

Sounds like she friend zoned him. Id try her as an accessory before the fact.

Is he the one who had a kill list and a rape list in high school?

I’m not blaming her, but there’s plenty of evidence she witnessed first hand that completely contradicts her whole “I can’t believe he did this, he was such a nice guy” shite. And they dated a few months max, while she was engaged to another guy. It isn’t like she was in love with the guy for years and blinded to who he was.

Sounds like she is now trying to use this to bring publicity to herself and her shite writing career

Polyamory is confusing for everyone involved, but luckily he and my fiance at the time were both understanding and consenting.
Move along. Nothing to see here.

so on the first date he made her watch a video of the synagogue shooting, and later on mentioned that he and some friends had burned a house down?
and she couldn’t believe that he did this?

Denial? How does one describe a person as "sweet" and a "good guy" and then go on to recall him talking about wanting to hurt people, writing psycho-level letters to ex-girlfriends, and burning buildings down?
"On second thought, maybe he was a psycho and I should have said something."

We also were very open about our mental illnesses from the very beginning.

The author describes red flags as if she wasn’t one of them.

Yeah she's in denial.
It's easier to say in hindsight that people should've known. It always happens after these shootings.
The truth is no one knows or no one wants to believe their friend/son/ex/brother is capable of this.

What a disappointing subject title. I thought a TD.com poster actually dated the POS.

Because she's not bright and clearly weird since she had a fiance and was dating this dude.

So on the first date he showed her the synagogue shooting w/ play by play. Then indicating he wanted to hurt people. Burns down a house.
Nothing to see here

I mean she admits she has mental illnesses as well. It’s hard for her to deal with her own shite and you expect her to get this guy help. I mean she got rid of him from her life when she finally realized how fricked up he was and told his mom to get him help. She did as much as she could given her own situation. His parents sound like the ones that failed.

He failed to resist the urge to perpetrate violence against people.
She failed to resist the urge to be a skank who wears her personality defects as misguided badges of honor.
The rest of us are off the hook for this one.

This is the flawed liberal argument every time. They want to pander to certain groups that we cannot profile people, but something happens and all the sudden we should have locked them up before shite happened.
So exactly what should have happened? She call the cops? Hell, thanks to they liberal bleeding heart “give poor man another chance he was such a good boy” laws, we have judges day after day letting future murderers straight out of prison. How are you going to lock someone up for showing a girlfriend some crap while drunk on a first date exactly? And yes, I agree that we should be able to single these wack jobs out, because we CAN. We have the ability- but we also have the ability to know 95% of terror attacks are Muslims yet we cannot even mention it let alone profile. Ah- and the hoodies- when was the last time you wore a hoodie in 97 weather? Really? They are being good boys up to good deeds? Really? How about we stop and see what they up to? Ohhh no, can’t do that - it’s racist- so exactly what was supposed to happen in this case again? I missed that part of your solution.
