re: My elderly mom has the COVIDs - what's the best way to get monoclonal antibodies?

Because they can do tests to measure response of a particular therapy. It's not hard.
What tests? Be specific.
The studies in monoclonal antibodies show it reduces hospitalizations and deaths. That’s the endpoint data you need to say it’s working or not.
In addition how do you know when I patient walks in if they have delta or omicron? I get that you can test the variant later. But you don’t know at the time so why would you withhold a potentially life saving treatment?

But I guess a question for you...what, exactly, are you suggesting? That the deep state has infiltrated all the hospitals there to put the kibosh on an effective treatment so that more people will die and therefore that will lead to more people getting vaccinated?
You tell me why? I think it’sa few people performing bad “science” and the rest of the doctors following the herd. Most doctors just do and say whatever the cdc says.

Wut
The doctor I spoke to said you have to be hospitalized for their group to give it to you. There's a doc on this board who basically said the same thing and made snide comments to people trying to get it.
There's obviously some politics involved when it comes to treatments.
ETA: I've decided that I must have misunderstood what the doctor told me.

Umm. You have to be an outpatient to get it.
I'm basing that on what an actual doctor told me. He said "We won't administer those until it gets serious enough for hospitalization". This is why I started the thread because the messaging around it isn't consistent, even from doctors.
ETA: I think I may have misunderstood the doctor. Maybe he meant he will only give it as a last line of defense BEFORE hospitalization. Right now is not the best time to call doctors.
Fortunately my mom is not sick at all. Zero symptoms. The others in the house are all showing symptoms. Basically like a mild flu so far. Im still very concerned.

She has zero symptoms thus far. The young people in the house are all feeling bad though.

I tested positive last Wednesday on 15th My Dr set it up and I had an 8:00am appointment next day for the infusion.

Call around to the different ERs. Tell them she tested positive and the doctor recommended the antibodies treatment. I got ahold of a couple of people on the phone who acted like I was asking for black market kidneys; but then I found an ER who said “come right on in and we’ll start processing you.” I drove straight over and was getting treatment within 30 minutes of arrival.

She needs to get tested at the hospital if she hasn't already done so. Her Dr./NPR has to order it. She has to be ready to go when they call.

Don’t get admitted, and no matter what tell them she’s had symptoms for less than ten days.

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has announced that monoclonal antibody treatments at LDH-run sites will be paused due to a federal decision to stop state allocations.
According to LDH, recent data shows that two treatments offered, REGEN-COV and bamlanivimab and etesevimab (administered together), are not effective against Omicron.
“As a result, the federal government paused further allocations of these monoclonal antibodies pending updated data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),” stated LDH in a news release.
Monoclonal antibody treatment, sotrovimab, has shown to remain effective against the new variant, according to LDH, and allocations of sotrovimab should be expected in January.
“Limited doses of sotrovimab have been distributed to the following select hospitals across the state,” said LDH officials. “However, the treatment will be in scarce supply until new deliveries arrive. As supply becomes more widely available, LDH will be ready to reopen sites when there a sufficient allocation for hospitals and community sites.”

Does she subscribe to the Joe Rogan podcast?

Earlier the better. We only give out patient but thanks to Brandon we are running very low of stock. We have tried to order some but we’re told that they are changing it to be more effective against the new variant.

The fed government decided to take control of the monoclonal antibodies because DeSantis and Abbott were going out on their own and getting it for their states. Biden decided he didn't want that.

Go to a walk in clinic and take test. At least in TX, they often connect you directly with monoclonal infusion.
Or go online to Zelenko protocols. Get quercetin, zinc, vit D3 and c. Start pronto.

How is it where you are? My department has 5 people out with confirmed Omicron. The hospital staff is inundated. Yet our ICU is half empty. I think this is where this ends but I would like to hear your thoughts.
We sit on opposite sides of the political spectrum but you were spot on when we discussed this back in March of 2020.

I think this is where it ends as well. From the beginning there has been speculation that this is the natural progression of newly emergent coronaviruses. Every common cold coronavirus could have begun like this.
No matter what new vaccine they talk about we can’t vaccinate our way out of this. The virus replicates in the mucosal surfaces of the nasal passage. Vaccines don’t produce enough mucosal immunity to completely prevent an infection. That’s why all of these asymptomatic people are testing positive. The virus is able to replicate in the nose but not get much further than that.
The hospitalization numbers will start to rise but they will be mostly incidental positives not in the hospital for COVID making it look like a huge wave but like you said the ICU is empty. That’s why I said the metric to watch is ventilator usage because they won’t be honest with us about how many people are hospitalized because of COVID. I bet ventilator use doesn’t rise.
