Sorry OP. No ones perfect and to lose a friend of 10 years has to be hard. Dont beat your self up to much Its not like you left the door wide open to the house. We all get distracted and that's probably what happened here.

Take it day by day friend.
We take these dummies into our homes and lives and they’re wonderful but we know our time with them will always be limited in one way or another. The memory lives on.

Damn, I didn't read any of the follow-up posts to see that your dog passed.

I deleted my original response as soon as I saw what happened.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry brother, hang in there. Not your fault, even well trained dogs do their own thing sometimes. Beautiful dog

Sorry brother… really

Very sorry . Very sad. :(

I have a half lab and half dob… she looks identical except fatter and floppy ears.

End of the day, it’s her fault and shouldn’t have gotten into it. It’s very sad, but it’s not your fault.

Sorry sorry

Don’t blame yourself for this. Accidents happen. I would never in a million years think my dog would be interested in a bottle of medicine on the counter. Prayers for your peace and healing. She lived a good life. Don’t dwell or ruminate on the accident but remember the good times and be proud of the good care you gave her for 10 years.

You aren't at fault because you didn't know your dog would get curious about a bottle on a counter. Don't beat yourself up about that.

Sorry about your loss. Izzy was definitely a beautiful dog.

Sorry to hear this.
Almost 20 years ago, we had a rat terrier eat a bunch of ibuprofen from my ex-wife purse. We got her to the as soon as they opened the next days, but I thought she wasn't going to make it through the night. After a week on IV fluids and a mid 5 figure vet bill, she survived. But not after doing significant damage to her kidneys. It eventually killed her years later when she went into kidney failure. Looking back, I'm sure she was in pain for a long time before she passed.

I guess what I'm trying to tell you, and I'm not sure this will ease your pain in a time of loss (but I hope it does), but there is a very good chance that your pets quality of life would have been significantly reduced going forward. Had I known how much pain our dog was likely in for years I might have made different decisions.

Will, I'm so sorry about your dog. Like the others have said, don't beat yourself up. That dog loved you, and wouldn't want you to be in pain. It was just a terrible accident.

I’m so sorry man. Similar situation here with the best dog I ever had. Gave her a treat before I left for work and came home for lunch to find out she’d she choked on it and died.
