There are enough foods in the world and other things to discipline a child about that this is not a major issue.

I saw this posted by a lady on Facebook just now. Any thoughts? Lol

I think it’s just more pussification of America at work. We have to come up with medical reasons to justify our children being spoiled in order to try to show that it’s not really our fault.

Agreed. There are lots of ways to deal with this, but "my kid's brain" is just lazy.

I am someone who subscribes to the the anti pussification of America, that apretns should be more stern, and foster independence in their kids. My kids are wonderful smart and sweet kids and if picky eating is the worst thing they have, then I'll accept it. I am not ignoring it.

Bunch of blow hards up in here--I am not beating my sweet 10 year old because she won't eat veggies.

I think these days, most people who have read up on picky eating understand the ties to autism and understand that ARFID exists. There will always be special cases where it's not just "grow up, stop being picky".

It's just that the % of kids with these issues is far less than the entirety of picky eaters. So people get annoyed at parents who do nothing to help their kids and set them up for later in life.

Honestly, if it's that bad, shouldn't the child be in therapy specifically designed for people with these issues to at least help them along? It is considered an eating disorder once you're at that point.

For those that are not diagnosed with a medical disorder that causes picky eating or where it's not so extreme they'd legitimately just starve, I do kinda wonder about parents that let it be with little effort to help it change because food and eating is something that is strongly entrenched in our lives as adults. Business dinners/meetings, holiday parties, date nights/romantic relationships, etc.

All kids are picky about certain things to a degree. That is normal. I'm specifically referring to those who won't eat anything besides 5 junk foods and don't seem to be growing out of it.

I was very picky but my parents didn’t make special food. I was a very skinny child and would legit starve rather than eat what i didn’t like. I guess i had the disorder. If i got hungry enough i would choke down at least a little food. I’m still picky as an adult but i eat a lot more than i did. At least i never had a weight problem.

Agreed.

When I was a child I ate what my parents gave me. If I didnt like supper, I would have it for breakfast or lunch. Eventually you will eat it.

Hunger is a great motivator. Luckily my mother was a great cook and there rarely was something I didnt like (like brussel sprouts, they taste like mud). She has been gone for 18 years and I really wish I could have another of her meals.

My parents don't describe me as a picky child, but I recall many nights stuck at the dinner table. I was just weirdly not food motivated at all. I was full within a couple of bites.

I had foods I didn't like, but it wasn't widespread enough for me parents to consider me picky. I was mostly weird about meats (they overcooked everything), potatoes, and mac and cheese. Only kid on earth who hated french fries and mac and cheese.

I actually got "prescribed" (told by doctor to take) Ensure every morning alongside my breakfast because of how small I was. Funny enough, I'm a huge food lover now as an adult, but I'm still just barely at 100lbs.

People will make excuses for everything. fricking Christ.

I was a picky eater too. And then I grew up and now there is literally nothing I won’t eat.

This country has no patience and wants to fix everything right away and be bothered.

Can’t see the damn Forrest through the trees.

I love it too! And potatoes!

I do admittedly still prefer potatoes with something that gives them flavor (cheese/sour cream/chives, salt/vinegar, ketchup, grainy mustard and herbs, etc.), but I eat them plenty.

I think with the mac and cheese, it's because we were a Velveeta Shells family. For some reason I hated Velveeta Shells. In high school, I tried mac and cheese from the deli department when I was working at Winn Dixie and it was night and day. I love it now.
