2 million is crazy. I would think only an Ohtani rookie could pull that number.

agree.
really cool card but there’s no shot this is worth two million dollars. Not even $100k
Still a lot of money but I don’t think this would sell for more than $25kish.
It’s not a rookie card. And if you read the back of the card, that jersey piece is not game worn (really common now to look out for). Material not tied to a particular player, game, or event.
The 1/1 Ohtani auto makes this thing worth low five figures still though.

Do the boxes at Target actually have the types if cards a collector wants?
They can. The Skenes one was in a retail pack. You get a card that you have to send in to Topps for redemption for some. They also put randos in some of the bulk grab bag style packs.

Good Lord. I knew vintage baseball cards could be worth a lot, but had no idea a card from 2022 could be that valuable.

How is he marketing it? On eBay or something ?

that one is definitely not. but a lot can be.
An Aaron Judge rookie just sold for almost $6million dollars last week

That’s awesome! Your bud needs to secure a lawyer and a CPA that specialize in lottery innings asap. His life just got a whole lot more complicated!

Definitely sell if he’s getting 2 mil offers.

I've been out of the collectibles game for a long time now but it's my understanding that's a real issue with some collectors these days. You get a card and the jersey swatch not only isn't from that player, it's not even from that team. It isn't game used.
I think nowadays you really have to send the cards off to be authenticated, graded, and slabbed before you attempt to sell it for any real value.

It’s not that it needs to be authenticated or anything. It’s a legit card. But card companies have started doing the “not worn, not player/game/event specific” to be able to pump out more cards. they can have this 1/1 and a game worn 1/1 etc. A jersey piece card is awesome, but you always want to check the back now to see if its at least worn by the player or game specific.
theyre cutting up real jerseys, but just weren’t worn by the player. it significantly reduces the value.
I’d be surprised if this card went above the $25-30k range.
Still a really sick pull though. Awesome card and more than paid for his $300 box obviously

not that it matters but I wonder what the tax implications are for something like this.
Was thinking the same thing. Is it considered income, capital gain, or lottery winning? Very interesting.

Just looked it up.
The card has a $12-20k value

People dream of pulling a 1 for 1 Ohtani.. Your friend did it!

That’s cool! I still would rather have my Pete Maravich mint rookie card..

What did he do with the bubble gum in all those packs?

Yea that’s why I feel bad here if people are giving this guy bad advice and he’s out there maxing out credit cards and looking at new houses.
He’s going to get a nice chunk of change, but at MOST he’s going to get like $20kish. Certainly an awesome day and a cool card to get. But people acting like he won the lottery or needs to get a lawyer are going to get this guy’s hopes way too high
