Update: he has successfully completed the in-patient portion of his treatment plan. His counselors all said it was difficult the first week, but after that he truly hit his stride and got better and better every day. I have been able to speak to him twice and finally visit in person once and he sounded like my brother again. Put on 15 or so pounds of good weight and clear eyes. Truly remarkable how much change has occurred in a short period of time and I love it man.
He just transitioned to the out patient facility where he will continue to receive treatment (he’s on lots of meds for both mental health and physical trauma) and live there with his own room for at least 6 months. They will continue to help him daily with sobriety meetings, both single and group therapy sessions, etc… preparing him to get back on his feet and be set up the best possible for success in his next chapter. He’s focused on doing everything he can to see his son again and re-establish a relationship with him, and I believe that’s an impactful motivation to keep him going in the right direction.
You guys have been awesome from day 1 through all of this and I appreciate it. I know a lot of you were asking about helping last month (thank you again Chicken for that email) but with it being literally Christmas I didn’t want to be that guy and ask for donations, and I also felt I and a few good friends/family member would be able to handle most of it. LSUEnvy recently emailed me asking how things were going and then became the first donor to the fund I had originally created back in September as a back-up plan and then essentially forgotten about. I updated it to colin being found and included the whole story of how he was finally found. I would love to be able to pay back some people that helped with everything (and are continuing to help) so if you would like to donate that year subscription to the jelly of the month club that would be awesome and we would all be grateful. Here’s the link. LINK
I know that addiction is a very controversial issue but this experience has obviously hit close to home and regardless how you feel personally, seeing someone survive and beat it is just as rewarding as seeing someone beat out a potentially fatal disease/illness. I know he made poor decisions but so have I and everyone that I know. At the end of the day he’s a good kid with a big heart that’s genuine and also very bright, and I have all the faith that every future update will be more good news. Thank you all again OT, this has been a rollercoaster but worth everything and I’ll continue to keep y’all posted on his return to a sober happy fulfilling life.

This update brings tears to my eyes. So happy and proud of your brother. My sister passed away from addiction last year, and your brother’s progress makes me happy. I will continue praying for him.

Fantastic update. Thanks for being willing to share Sampson. Can’t wait for the day Colin is healthy enough to join the board. Recovery is a long road but I’m glad he’s at least making that journey.

I truly believe that everything happens for a reason., and God puts certain people in your life …. call it fate, coincidence, or being in the right place at the right time. I’ve been sober for 34 years living one day at a time. It’s imperative that the OP’s brother stay away from his former using friends, and work a program that promotes a healthy sober lifestyle.

Man I really wish the best and hope for a great outcome.

Great to hear. I hope your brother continues to recover and gets the opportunity to see his kid.
That's probably his biggest driving factor at improving his situation. There might not be a whole hell of a lot you can do to help along the drug rehab area, but hopefully you can help out when it comes time to get back to seeing his kid. Help him get a good lawyer, and make sure his bitch of a baby momma is sticking to the agreement made it court. If the kid is his biggest motivating factor for getting sober, you don't want that to get taken away from him again once he gets there.

I know it’s still early, but I’ve already sent a message to the mother letting her now how good he is doing and how important her working with him in the future to have his son in his life will be. I haven’t heard back yet, but I’m going to do my best on that front.

That’s great news. Congrats, dude. I hope he continues working on himself and getting himself right and goes on to live happily (as he can) ever after. Also hope things work out with him and his kid. I know that would motivate the frick out of me.

Thank you to Andrew, Randy and the degenerate known as Owl (we are having lunch this week NBD) for the donations. Truly appreciated
I hope you received my email and it helped answer questions with your current situation Randy. The best that can emerge from this is encouraging others to get the help they need, and also give hope that they’re not a lost cause
Goodnight y’all
