I told my wife your story. She was born with one hand, she's missing mosy of her right arm, stops just above where the elbow would be. After she stopped laughing, her first question was if the girl was missing both arms. Because she always offers her left immediately. Doesn't even give someone time to think about shaking the right.
Our thoughts based on your experience is that she is an amputee, and fairly recent. Or, she is a double amputee, but I feel like you would have mentioned that.
