Of course not, but if you insist on a Rolex and Farrari when you're not rich, you're not living within your means. So many people match their income with their spending, and a lot of it ends up being on outward representations of wealth that doesnt benifit anything other than their egos. Ive got a watch i love that cost 80 bucks, lots of compliments on it, and that was for me. Personally, it looked better than plenty of gaudy overly flashy time pieces to me. Yes, there's outliers like us, just far more people who are not and think entirely in their social image.

Everybody comparing rates, it depends a lot on where you live. If you live in Orleans or Jefferson be ready to get screwed.

SF keeps bugging me to enroll with their safe driving beacon program. I guess they can’t take no for an answer.

I make around 225k a year, have a $500 house note, and can’t afford new cars. COL is insane.

I am gonna hate myself for getting into this particular back-and-forth, but...

You are far from correct. There has always been a group of high net worth individuals (mostly VHNWI & UHNWI) that self-insure at least some of their risks. It is just an implementation of the Kelly Criterion. This group is actually growing.
