And this is my point. You said what he's paying is crazy compared to what you're paying, but he has 20 TIMES the amount of liability coverage than you do.

And why is that?

I haven't read the whole thread. Is a reason that he carries so much liability?

not even going to comment on not having home insurance

Please comment. I don’t live in a hurricane zone, and my neighborhood has never experienced a flood. I’ve cut down any tree that could be a threat. Please enlighten me why I should give a suit that plays golf on a Tuesday $3000/year? In case my house magically burns down. Just me and my wife here.

no its cool...if you want to gamble on your biggest asset....your choice. do as you please. I would never but if you own it, its not nearly as big of a risk as you are taking with your car insurance coverage. im sure no weather event or nothing bad will ever happen

the fact that you comment on this thread too not understanding Diamond has to have the coverage he has to drive in petrochem facilities shows your lack of knowledge.

I would self insure but the cost of defense for just one suit on liability would wipe out a lifetime of premium savings. So I pay.

He still wants us to believe he's wealthy

Besides, I don't wear a suit and play golf on Friday.

I wonder if he owns any guns.

Why do they need to be in NOLA? Frost Bank out of Texas is a large insurance broker that will service you.

I'm an insurance retard and assumed that brokers only handled designated territories.

Looking into Frost Bank, they list 10 "trusted partners" that they deal with. It's missing some big ones (including Geico who is generally well regarded, and All State which everyone agrees sucks, but that's just the two big ones that I can think of now). Is it typical for Brokers to exclude insurance providers available in my area? Or is Frost Bank likely to include more companies outside of their 10 "trusted" insurers?

Regardless, I'll still probably give them a shot. Thanks for the recommendation.

I may be the exception, but I’ve had to make a couple of significant (50,000 +) claims in the last 15 years and they’ve been more than fair. Without cancelling or a major increase in rate.

I don't know the answer to that question, but I'm guessing they include trusted insurers as those that work with only reputable repair shops (Caiber collision, etc.) Most of that decision making is based on fraud rates, repairs that have to be fixed again (all of it linked to cost to the insurer.) "Local" brokers probably aren't local, they're captive brokers to a big name, especially in high risk areas like NOLA. The risk can't be supported to the capital available by a true local.

The majors that have TV ads basically charge a premium for notoriety. Frost just found me car insurance at a 30% savings from Progressive with Foremost, which is a Farmer's subsidiary.

YMMV, but I don't trust "local" brokers as much as I trust non captive brokers with broader reach. Someone can call themselves non captive, but still accept incentives that aren't transparent to you to steer you in certain directions.

A thesis I've developed over the last decade is that if a financial company has naming rights to a stadium, it's probably a shitty deal.
