I tried to make things technologically easier for my 89 year old mother. Ended up just fricking shite up for her and we ended up just going back to how she had it.
I suggest you just leave it alone if she's happy. How much total money do you think you could save by changing, anyway?

Antenna is a good idea, but I think it still matters where you live. Like I got a really expensive outdoor antenna and still struggle to pickup my local CBS.
I think if ease is a factor they could consider the streaming version of dtv. However, if antenna works well that's good and they could probably find a really cheap streaming option for Hallmark.
This package has most of the channels she likes, but it will require using a smart device's remote which isn't the easiest experience for older people
LINK
50+ Channels Starting at $6.99/mo.
and then you would still need an antenna for locals.
I really would consider the dtv streaming and even sharing it together.

Tell her to tighten up or off to the old folks home it is. I'm kidding, just pay for her service. Local channels suck anyway

I have to go over to my 93 year old MIL's house about once a month to press the input button on her remote to get it back to cable tv. If you change her shite good luck

HD Antenna gives you all the local channels and then some.

I like my satellite dish over streaming b/c I can punch in channel number without having to go thru 600 channels in the guide
Internet down, no problem. I’m still connected
I pay $40 more per month, but honestly, I’d pay more for the convenience. I stream outside in the poolhouse and love when I can walk outside and predict the next play to everyone watching the game LOL
I feel like a dinosaur with a Dish. People come over and see the guide come up on the TV when I go to change the channel or search for something and they're like "what the frick is that?!"

Directv now offers genre packs at lower costs. It reads like it's a streaming package but I just switched from a traditional package to the mysports genre pack and it works through the satellite as well. You just have to continue paying for the box rental. Looks like she would benefit from the MyEntertainment pack

With a Roku the Hallmark channel is $79.99 for the year or $7.99 a month.
That seems overpriced

She already knows the channel numbers on DirectTV, how to work it, etc. She’s not going to want to get used to something like YouTube TV without the channel numbers. Just write the check every month and be glad your mom is alive at 90.

Go to Best Buy and buy her a digital antenna and a Roku
Digital antenna for the local channels. No subscription needed.
Roku for streaming. Download the Hallmark+ app on the Roku and its like $8 a month subscription. She can watch whatever Hallmark movies or shows she wants on-demand

Yiiiikes!! Get that woman an internet connection and Either sling or YouTube Tv today! You can set her favorites up and she won't have to worry about searching for them.
If she lives in the sticks with no internet connection.. she would still be saving money with starlink.

All I’ll say is Google iptv and do some research.

My dad canceled his cable then asked me to help him get channels again. I set him up on YouTubeTV (using one of my email addresses). They love it. $82/mo cancel anytime.

Get her a VSeeBox and be done, no more subscriptions

Yessir. My FIL is 92 and he is on our frndlytv. We have his remote programmed so he can see what to hit on the remote for his western channels. I didn't do it so can't explain. If that can't be done then you made a great point and recommendation.

Cox has the little box with basic cable channels for like $50 a month

I did the same thing for my parents whose are in their 70s. They were laying $350 for cable and Internet through Xfinity
I went down and got them a few rokus for their different TVs and they love it. Their cable bill is now $50 instead of $350/month

I don't think they offer it for this much anymore.
They have some weird thing for 20 bucks, but it doesn't have local channels and you have to be with their internet service I think.
Their next smallest package for TV is Contour TV Starter which is 80 dollars.
And then our state has crazy taxes for cable tv on top of that.
Do correct me if I am wrong, but I've been researching this lately. Still might not be a bad idea, but it also depends where the OP 's mother lives if they even get Cox.

I tried to help an older gentleman on use of a fire stick.
Tried and failed. It was similar to the time I tried to explain x to my daughter when she was in the 6th grade taking an intro algebra class.
