Why would they stop teaching cursive in school?
Because it serves no purpose. I know the public schools stopped teaching it, I didn't realize private did as well. Good IMO

You could say that about a lot of the things they teach, but there still taught. What are the odds someone is going to need know the square root of pi or do long division when they have calculator at the palm of their hand ?

Teaching how things actually work is important. Yes, we use calculators to do division. It's still useful to know what your calculator is actually doing.

Learning cursive doesn't actually teach me anything about language/how to use it.

How does teaching cursive actually advance someone's ability to communicate?

Perfect cursive from a computer
Oh shite, that is a conundrum. We all use computers and it is universal that we should teach technology, and they produce cursive?

That is sad. I had a co worker tell me her son who was 16 could not read an analog clock. I remember learning that in like 1st grade. It is really disturbing the things that are not being taught to children these days and even more disturbing some of the things that are being taught.

I learned how to write in cursive, but I would still struggle to read cursive just due to people's handwriting.

I still write in cursive 95% of the time. It's kind of ridiculous that they don't teach it anymore.

That's what I was thinking.

That's pathetic.

True story. In Rouses one day checking out and had a shopping list in the upper part of the cart by the handle.

The gal bagging my groceries saw it as she was putting things in the cart and asked to see it. She looked at it like it was hieroglyphics and asked what it was and I told her it was the list of things I bought.

She admitted she couldn't read it but thought it looked cool written that way.

Unbelievable they don't teach cursive any more.

Do we teach every other font available? Not much of a conundrum if you think for half a second.

why?

please explain why we should teach something that is dying and no longer needed?

thats like saying everyone should know how to drive a manual transmission....again why?

ftr i know how to read and write cursive, i know how to drive a manual but im also smart enough to understand in todays society they are both useless skills and a waste of time to learn.
