Unless you’re an engineer or something of that nature nobody uses advanced math in their life. I’m not saying it shouldn’t be taught but it’s not something most people use.

so pretty much most stem majors, those in finance etc???

most advanced math isnt taught either unless you choice to take it.

algebra 1 and geometry isnt advnaced math. to graduate high school only need 4 units, that can be algebra 1, geometry, business math and financial math.

Apparently not as OP’s son came across a situation where it was needed.

Some boomer holding out to antiquated forms of communication does not make them necessary. There is no reason to cater to the lowest common denominator.

There is no comparing the usefulness of math vs cursive.

One takes ten years to systematically build proficiency and is not utilized by the majority of the population. One could be taught in a week and as project says, has been replaced with meaningless time wasters.

The progression after learning cursive is learning other things that need to be conquered by simply sitting down and working on it until you get it right.

so how about we apply that same approach to something that is still in use and will apply in a decade from now....like computer skills?

Like I said earlier, it's not being replaced by something the provides a similar learning opportunity. It's being replaced by whatever arts and crafts project allows the elementary teacher to nurse their shitty margarita hangover in peace.

and like i said...maybe at your kids shitty school, not the one my kids go to.

and like i said, stop sending your kids to government run schools and then getting mad whent hey cater to those with an iq under 100.

Until you need to take the dog for a walk.

Maybe he can make a MLK abstract by rounding up a glue stick and using the dog hair laying around as make up work

To be fair, some of the people who would use cursive for a note to an 18 year old, write like a retard.

You leave a note, u don't use cursive. I mean c'mon.

I work with a guy who uses cursive and I'm still trying to figure out notes from last month. Gibberish

Should just type it in cursive and no one would know if you misspell anything

Language and communication progressively build as well. Why limit ones ability to communicate?

I realized my 14 year old can’t last week. I asked the 17 year old and admittedly said he can figure it out but it takes a few..

I wanted to call them stupid but the reality is the younger wasn’t taught it and the older was taught and used until middle school when it was abandoned

I promise all schools have gaps. Strengths and weaknesses. If you are honest you will admit it as your kid goes thru.

Mine have attended magnet public schools, universities, and private K-12. None of em are perfect.

so he called you on the phone to get help reading a letter? It sounds like your son has bigger problems than cursive.

I dont, because as I have gotten older, it is shite.

My 14 year old had to sign a document for school the other day, I held my breath as he put pen to paper. Turns out he has a nice little signature.

Same. The OP failed as a parent. His kids literally aren’t qualified to dog sit.
