I liked them pre-9/11. After that they got political and even though I agreed with their viewpoint it was tiresome. As a matter of fact, I was listening to them in the school car pool line when 9/11 happened.
I don’t recall them too much before that time except for a few times with my dad in the truck. Listened to them all the time in HS/college post-9/11.
But I feel like W&J really started to go super political and became unbearable was around when Obama was elected. That seemed to break them and it became 90% politics.
I listened to Kidd Kraddick for a while until he passed away. Show has never been the same since then. Switched to podcasts/streaming after that and haven’t looked back.

They’re no Walton and Johnson

Our kids used to go to school with Murphy and Jodi’s kids. We would see the regularly and hung out with them sometimes. They are good people. Really happy for them that they managed to turn their local show into a national syndication. I can say that for them, what you get on the radio is them. They aren’t playing characters or just putting on a show.

I won a 96.1 raffle for some James Taylor tickets when I was about 12 and Jodi called our house. My mom answered and Jodi asked for me and I said hello, sounded like a kid, and all Jodi said to me was, “put your mom back on the phone, sweetie.”

I miss pre-9/11 Walton & Johnson, when they were actually funny and didn’t delve into politics much. If they did, they were indiscriminate. Everybody got it. After 9/11 they dove right over the ledge into Right Wing Nut Job status. When Obama got elected they became an arm of the Rush Limbaugh show. So frick em.

I seem to remember Sam dating a friend of mine in the early 2000’s and it being super age inappropriate.
I could be remembering wrong. I don’t want to besmirch the man.

I’ve met them a few times at events. All are very nice people. IRL, they are exactly like they are on the air. JODI is very cute.

I used to listen to a talk show on the local Birmingham rock station a while back but they then moved (they've since come back to another station but that doens't matter). They were replaced by Walton and Johnson. Just out of habit I gave them a few listens and it was....shockingly bad. Like I can't comprehend how anyone between the age of 25-55 could ever stand it. We aligned politically which was ok, but it was so over the top unfunny.
You had dude impersonating a deep voiced black guy, as well as a gay as hell hairdresser. If your main schtick of your show is funny voices you're essentially just the ventriloquist act of the talk show world. I still can't wrap my head around how anyone would find them appealing.

We have mutual friends os paths cross and I completely agree.

I listened to them a bit in their early days. They weren't so over the top political and were occasionally entertaining. Then they went all politics and just became tedious.

I honestly never found their schtick all that funny but they would play the funny songs and bits and things regularly that I found funny like Sex in the morning and Salty Chocolate Balls and the bit about the pig in the ice chest etc....not of that was them but those bits were all funny and presented regularly as part of their show.
But when they went political they really went balls deep and I pretty much quit listening very shortly after.

They had a segment on their show years ago around the holidays about cooking and holiday traditions and I called in to share our family traditions. And one of them, maybe Murphy said I can email you and share some family recipes if you’d like, and I said thanks but no thanks I’m set in my ways and like what I like. And I could really tell that stuck in his craw

Surprised how this thread is going.
I can’t stand more than thirty seconds of that show.
Nobody cares about some random radio people’s kids. They are huge nerds. The dudes are so freaking weak it hurts to listen.
But different strokes for different folks.

Does anyone still listen to the kidd kraddick morning show? About two years ago I picked this back up after not listening for a long long time. Given I could care less about celebrity gossip which seems to be 25% of the show. They do a lot of charity work very uplifting compared to that rino Tommy Tucker

I don't know how anyone can listen to that corny arse garbage.

Your not wrong - they are corny no doubt. But I think for many it's a welcome respite from the shock jocks, indecent and often inappropriate content and the hate filled rhetoric that dominates much of the rest of the genre.

Agree. They seem like nice people although I think simply "Murphy and Jodi" would work. I can only hear Cole Cubelic talk about 'portal news' from the MAC or McElroy telling us how Alabama should be in the playoffs every year since they are "Alabama."

Agree 100%. It was awful. I could not listen to that one guys voice. Like nails on a chalkboard. Terrible.
What channel is that new show on in Birmingham? I know its not 99.5, Jox, or 106.5. Is it the Christmas music station? Got to be one of those because every other station in BHM is country, hip hop, or mexican.
