Appears to have occurred near the Joy Theatre, no where near Tulane, but near Tulane Medical.

To think I just saw Amity Affliction at the Joy Theatre last month. Could have been me.

I was just going to post this. I bet there have been over 20 shootings and hundreds of fights at that corner over the past 25 years. The Riverside/uptown corner of Elk Place and Canal Street is not the place to hang out.

That corner is an absolute shite hole. There are constant fights and robberies. And there have been several shootings there in the past couple of years. You’d think that being said, and considering that this is a major tourist area, that NOPD would have a robust presence there. But no. Let the crap keep happening.

Pretty much the source of all the crime there.

Elk Place at Canal is the bus interchange for the entire city. Thugs from the East and every other hood in NOLA get dropped off there. Get rid of that and the area would improve dramatically.

Off Topic: I hear that building is timeshares now. Had a friend living there previously, kicked her to the curb

Pretty close to the Iberville project too.

That little stop has been a hot spot for crime since I can remember. For the life of me I can’t figure out why the city hasn’t done something about it.

Yeah, common sense would tell the NOPD to always have some presence there since there are a few theaters there and it's a busy tourist area. With the type of people you see nearby, it doesn't give you the best feeling if you're heading to the Saenger or Joy Theater.

And there have been two murders in the last 6 days of homeless people in tent city right under the overpass nearby on Canal and Claiborne. A clean sweep is needed now.

I’d say a half dozen shooting the last 3 years or so. Darn near every “canal street shooting” is that corner. It’s one of the places that’s genuinely easy to stumble into and quite unsafe.

I guess I should feel stupid for leading my family from that intersection, through that park, and on to the Superdome for the Sugar Bowl.

Could've been me!

And it looks like an NOPD officer flipped his unit while responding, so the city just lost another $60k.
