Man there was one of those, maybe 1990 or so. Ed Lover MC'd the bikini contest or Ms Spring Break whattheheckever it was called... anyway it was damn near x rated by the standards at the time. Seems like they really toned it down after that.

I was thinking more like Headbanger's Ball, Alternative Nation, and YO! MTV Raps.

You just described the beginning of the dark days.

And 120 minutes. Yea - it became garbage once those reality shows started.

Beauty and the Beach is what it was called. And yes, it was pretty crazy. No way you could get away with any of that on tv these days.

And being a teenager at the time, I salute Ed Lover for every part of that program.

MTV used to be awesome. Real World, Road Rules, Next, the show where you took people's mom's out on dates to figure out which actual person you want to take out, Room Raiders. Sigh.....the glory days.

The glory days where when you could turn it on at any time of the day and see a music video. You just described all the shitty programming that made it into what it is today.

Was that the show where they would make two strangers run in the ocean, take off there clothes, make out, put the other person's clothes on, run back to the beach, and do it faster than the other pair? frick I wanted to do that so bad when I was 12.

Interesting, as I think that's when it started to go downhill.

Even though it isn't music related, Real World was certainly on top of its game at its height, but they had to oversaturate with Road Rules, Challenge and probably others I can't think of. Then all of the other shows like the 2 you mentioned, just all downhill from there.

Used to love the Spring Break coverage. The summertime coverage was also fun to watch every year. Jim Bruer had a hilarious show on there one summer. Lots of really funny characters including an early portrayal of the Jersey Shore cheeseball (I think that's where MTV was stationed that summer) that would become so popular years later. I haven't been able to find any episodes online.

I loved early Real World. What started to ruin the show was they found huge ratings when the roommates were big partiers (first Vegas maybe?). Then that became their formula.

Stopped watching MTV around 2005.
