I consider North Carolina to be part of the South, but I don't view Michael Jordan as "Southern."

Ali sure as hell ain't Southern.

I do like your suggestions of Dolly Parton, Bo Jackson, and Johnny Cash, though.

We can't agree on a list if we can't even agree with what is southern.

If geography isn't important, then Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) is probably the most Southern person of all time.

That's a good one. Although if Louisville isn't southern, then Bentonville, Ark., sure as hell isn't.

Feel no pressure to agree with me; the debate is part of the fun.

Personally, while I love His Airness, I just dont' see him as a Southern personality.

Many folks I know down here don't care for Ali becuase he bailed on the war while their loved ones went over. Hell, even Elvis went. I can't see a Muslim on my all-time Southern team.

I smell what you're cooking.

A Mt Rushmore of people who embody the South is different than a list of people merely from the South.

My revised list:

Robert E. Lee
Bear Bryant
Elvis Presley
Jimmy Carter
Mark Twain

Louisville is on the Ohio River, 596 miles northeast of Bentonville, Arkansas.

Ain’t nothin’ more Southern than the Wal-Mart.

I’ll allow it.

No, it is not.

Louisville is barely 100 miles north of Bentonville. Most of those miles are driving east.

But we've already established that the OP was discussing "cultural" south, not "geography" south.
