Kenner's top building official says he warned contractors about the potential for plumbing problems when construction began on the new, billion-dollar terminal at Louis Armstrong International Airport.

quote:

An email exchange from 2016 shows that the contractor asked to cut back on plumbing hangers to keep costs down. A city inspector would later blame the plumbing problems on a shortage of those same hangers.

quote:

The project manager for the terminal construction said last month there are approximately 15,000 linear feet of sewage pipe underneath the terminal. Experts say hangers cost approximately $6 each. That would mean an additional $22,000 in materials, plus the cost of added labor to increase the number of hangers.

I would imagine the labor might cost more than the hangers... let's say the total cost of the additional hangers and the labor to install them is 75K. On a billion dollar project.

Hope it was worth it.

Is the Kenner bloke responsible for inspecting the place? If so, did he just admit he ok'd it?

HGBM to ask for a meeting and ultimately a compromise of hangers installed every three feet. Kenner agreed to it.

So Kenner-brah buckled?

This new terminal needs to be shut down until it's completely finished with all the necessary road infrastructure including the flyover ramp.

The current terminal may not look world class but it's still serviceable and runs fine and that's why there's no harm in waiting a few years to get it right for a finished product with the new terminal. There's no rush here.

If Ralph Abraham or Eddie Rispone is elected Governor, I would not be surprised to see them take this position.

It was worth it for the contractor to underbid his competition.

The new terminal may not be finished by the time the flyover ramp is done. This whole thing has been a shitshow since before they broke ground.

The entire area should’ve been bought up before announcing construction so they could have the land in place for entering and exiting the terminals. Why build a brand new multi million dollar rental facility to make it obsolete less than a decade later? I doubt they truly have a shuttle plan in place to take people on airport road. The infrastructure and traffic will be a damn nightmare at Loyola and Vets.

By finished product, I meant every fricking thing is finished. The terminal AND the road infrastructure.

This new terminal is about making a good first impression to out of town travelers as the current terminal right now is outdated as hell and if even one part was not working perfectly in conjunction with the other, that would be an embarrassment to New Orleans and Louisiana as a whole.

Yep.

Mitch Landrieu is truly a special kind of piece of shite for forcing this down our throats without one care for qualified and competent contractors, roadway infrastructure, and funding for quality materials.

Flew out of Atlantic this afternoon and just had a sad feeling that it will sit there for another 18-24 months before opening. I honestly don’t know who thought they’d be open last May.

Remember, he also appointed the uncle of his side piece / baby momma (ALLEGEDLY) to be the Aviation Director at MSY.

Par for the hhe course .

I mean it's bad enough of a dick down to the tax payers with the over budgets and cronies. But when you have both New Orleans and Kenner both expecting to be let in on the action, then you could have bet your nut sack it would go over budget, over schedule, and less quality work.

The easiest place for money to disappear is always with the studies and surveys and planning logistics.

I am no plumber but what is the standard for these hangers?

Also, how much of a difference would this have made since it is in cased in dirt under a sinking shifting slab?

From the videos that I saw, it looked like they used a cheap thin grade 3 or 4 in PVC pipe that was glued together like a child’s project. I have worked with cut PVC pipe so I know that it is not most pleasant looking pipe when you have to prime it with the purple cleaner and then use the rain or shine blue glue. Also, you only stick about an inch on each side on the glue fittings so a shift of a few inches and your pipe is going to come out if the glue is not cured properly or will crack the pipe especially with the cheap stuff.

Oddly phrased but undeniably correct.

shitshow
Nicely ironic term considering the issue is the “issue” from the terminal.

Why not do away with restrooms and instead line up portolets for the travellers? Tell them it's part of the tourism experience.

There may very well be no code that requires them at all or a minimum that he feels should be greater given the scope of the job. This will come down on the engineering for design and approval of the cheapness.

Indeed, they have since changed the code to make what the recommended required but the airport would have been grandfathered in under the old code.

The sinking taxiways, busted plumbing and unfinished access road are ALL a result of Landrieu's vain attempt to rush the airport so it would have been done before he left office.

We celebrated a 300th Anniversary and the only gifts left by Mitch Landrieu to New Orleans were decaying infrastructure, flooded streets, an unopened airport with no access road that is already three times over budget, the highest sales tax in the country, the highest auto insurance in the country, the highest electric cost in the state, the highest sewerage/water/garbage fees in the country, an understaffed police force, underfunded pensions and three empty pedestals. Before the first Landrieu took office in 1970, New Orleans was the 19th largest city in the country with more citizens than Nashville, Atlanta, Minneapolis and Miami. By the time Mitch left, New Orleans was not one of the top 50 cities in America. Landrieus have done far more to damage this city than any hurricane.
