Rideshare should be moved to other side with the busses. Next time there notice how under utilized the area is.

Correct.

Old MSY was becoming a relic.

I wish they would spend some money on cleaning the new MSY.
We flew out the day after it opened and again a few weeks ago.

The difference in cleanliness was shocking.

MSY parts ways with janitorial service due to bad service. Last week.

You also fail to remember thar traffic at the old terminal was similar during peak hours.

You people that love this boondoggle can only argue it has more food choices and is as good as the old facility.

I agree with you on the interstate, but people like you cried about how bad the traffic was going to be without the damn airport even being open.

Wrong person. I never wanted the new terminal. I damn sure did not want a bunch of taxpayer funded road spending to it.

You are happy the government spent over a billion dollars on a new terminal that has fewer gates than the old and has more places for you to eat. Wasn't needed but you are happy.

We can solve the inconveniences of the new terminal by using some of the capacity of the old. If for example, SouthWest moved back to the old terminal and refurbished it that would take a huge amount of traffic off of the new. It would also allow people like you that are more interested in food choices at the airport to fly another airline leaving from the new terminal so you can get a Chickfila.

They didn't though.

Maybe when you realize you are wrong about this the rest of it will fall into place for you.

Wow, glad to see them move so quickly!

That's a pretty cheap contract to clean that facility.

Say it is going to be handled in-house now so that could be better or worse.

At least the ultimate person responsible will be on staff.

Taxpayers and airline customers funded it.

Funded some of the roads and the apron improvements as part of the FAA.

Airlines and users funded everything else. The people who it benefits are paying for it.

I have no opinions or expertise on the matter but I’ll say it sure is nice landing at home to people eating/drinking and seemingly having a generally decent time as opposed to a shithole dungeon to really bring your post-trip morale way tf down

IB is sure that "taxpayers" wrote a check for the entire thing. He can't explain that or understand that, but he knows it!!!

The old MSY property along with tax incentives needs to be pitched to Amazon as a distribution hub.

You keep telling yourself this, and it's not true. And it will never be true.

Fedgov money was used for some of the apron and road work. Guess what? If you know how FedGov money works, you know that SOMEONE is going to use it. So if not us, some other airport would have taken it. They also modernized some equipment when the moved it, which honestly, it needed to be updated anyways. Again, that money was going to get used by someone. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Everything else on-property came from:

1) Airport reserves (which came from profits from customers/airlines)
2) Bonds backed by passenger fees
3) Airline spending

The state did spend some money on roads outside the airport, and buying out the old fire station. The total amount is probably less than 10 million. Not a billion.

Yes, the new interstate connector uses federal road dollars that could be used elsewhere in the state. From day one, I proposed that instead, the connector should be built as a toll road. That way, no federal highway dollars would be used.

As far as capacity, the new facility has 35 gates. At the old facility, A was closed, and the total number of gates actually used in B, C, and D, was less than 35. Further, the new facility allows for easier ways to share gates between airlines that don't fly that often.

You just have so many of your facts wrong... it is depressing.

Okay. I had to lookup what the designation of MSY stands for. Interesting story.

Frequent flier here. Love the new terminal and proud to walk through it. Parking in Short Term is a breeze, security through CLEAR takes about 1 minute, and I can actually get a decent cup of coffee.

If the pick up lanes are backed up, tell your passenger to make the short walk over to short term parking and pick them up there. It is free for the first half hour. I've done that a number of times and it's a breeze.

I will say this, as much as I defend the new airport, I had to pick someone up in arrivals one day when it was busy and it was a fricking shitshow.

So, question for those familiar:

Can someone be picked up at Departures instead (I used to do this all the time at the old MSY)? Can a person that is deboarding get up there to departures and not go to arrivals?

Yes. This is all I've ever done at either airport. It's so much easier.
