how bout we lock them all up? in the same place? no segregating, no blue collar, petty, misdemeanor shite to separate violent from non-violent offenders? No need for multiple facilities and bureaucracies.

Just one really shitty place to send every offender. Maybe then, we wouldn't have to release the really bad shitheads to make room for the slightly bad shitheads. And maybe then, if prison sucked really bad enough for every participant, less people would want to go.

Ron Jermaine Bell

Bell was a tenant in one of Roberts-Johnson’s rental homes. They believe he was behind several months on his rent, and that he owed abut $1,200.

Bell is a registered sex offender. He was already in jail on other charges when he was identified as a murder suspect,

no rational person would kill anyone for anything.

For this to be the reason he killed her he will get to live in a mental hospital for the rest of his life.

I also agree, but for a slightly different reason. Too many people like this guy ARE actually in prison. They should be 6 feet under, with their necks broken after being publicly hung!

I agree that a guy like Bell should never have seen freedom again

If you rape an 8 year old, there is no rehabilitating you. You have a sickness that can't be fixed and you should never be allowed to be part of the free population again

You are so misinformed on this subject that it isn't worth arguing.

Man, this is such a sad post. I know it reflects the opinion of a large portion of certain populations and it's a sign nothing will change.

I don't think anyone really wants to go to prison. And it cost money to keep all of these people in prison. A lot of money. This is a site I found with a quick google search (so not sure how credible it is).

quote:

Amount spent annually in the U.S. on the war on drugs: $47+ billion

quote:

Number of people arrested for a marijuana law violation in 2017: 659,700

Number of those charged with marijuana law violations who were arrested for possession only: 599,282 (90.8 percent)

LINK

That is a lot of money.. There needs to be away to help people. A lot of people are a victim of their environment. They are in and out of jail because they have no life skills to be able to get a decent job.

Putting everyone, no matter how bad the crime is, in one jail together isn't the answer. People need to be rehabilitated and be able to contribute to society. Not everyone will be able to be helped, but even if you take all the people who go back to jail after their first time and reduce it by 25% it not only saves money, but they are actually an asset. That's something that needs to be focused on..

I didn't say they did.

I agree its expensive. But when they want to reduce military spending, they close bases. When you want to reduce operational costs, you close facilities. So why not close prisons where we send white collar criminals and petty criminals, and send them to Angola?

people always say, let the weed slingers and drug users out? Well they've been reducing violations, and adjusting prison terms, for drug use. They've been reducing the severity of crimes to make it easier to avoid jail time. What good is it doing?

I'm not advocating one way or the other. Just asking why the popular answer is always..."let the criminal out to make room and save money."

seems we ought to be enforcing the punishment as opposed to undermining it by letting people out. Or out early, or for good behavior, etc. Put them away and make them stay there. Maybe then jail would be a deterrent instead of an inconvenience. and perhaps we wouldn't have so many people doing things to earn jail time. if so, we just saved a bunch of money.

True, but the majority of people in jail aren't there for petty crimes.

I don't see why you think the answer is to undermine the law by negating the punishments for violating the law.

you don't like the law and its results for violating said law, change the law. But don't pass a law as a deterrent, then negate the deterrent by letting the abuser go free.

as to the difference between the weed smoker and a murderer, aren't both breaking the law as currently written? If the point of prison is to incarcerate law breakers, then put them in jail. If you want to save money, put them in the same jail.

You are a perfect example of people who can’t form their own argument so they just use the same played out, regurgitated talking points....

Only problem is that the talking points that you used here don’t even apply
