Moving to NYC

I'll be moving to NYC in a couple months for a 6 year work assignment from Baton Rouge. I'm currently in my upper 20s, single, and will be working at an office in downtown Manhattan.
I'm leaning towards buying a condo (or renting for 1 year then buying) since I'll be there for so long and throwing all my money away on rent sickens me.
Any advice on how to make the most of this adventure?

If he didn't knew I'm sure he would've asked.

Even if you had the money for a condo, the maintenance fees and taxes would kill you.

What kinda cheddar you gonna be making? How secure is the industry? Will help determine if renting or buying is a better option

Quick google showed that average studio condos cost $700,000 on up....for a studio remember. In Manhattan.

A one bedroom condo in Manhattan will run you about a mil. Studio 750k.

Live in hoboken and commute in. Have tons of friends in their 20s living there and say it's the place to be

Congratulations man! Single mid 20s earning enough to live in Manhattan. You're gonna love it.
I'd recommend you find a place in close proximity to an "express" train stop. It basically means you can be anywhere in Manhattan within 20mins

Yeah i see one for 659k that's 443 square feet! Talk about claustrophobic. But if you are ballin harder you could pay a million or 2 and have some more legroom.

Did you research this part before accepting the job?

He never said he was living in Manhattan and on top of that, I have some friends there that love it. Me personally, I'd never live there but sounds like you'll be making legit money so have fun and keep us updated.

Find a nice or gentrifying neighborhood in Brooklyn or Queens or the Bronx that is relatively close to an express train. You will get way more bang for your buck and the commutes aren't that bad. You'll still pay a lot if its a nice hood but not Manhattan bad.
Do heavy heavy research.
