Left Nola 30+ years ago, no problems since

Last time I was in Mandeville I could hear the distant sound of gunfire from across the lake

At first it will be scary.
After 6 months, you will wear street clothes and speaking like those we don’t speak of

Buy a historic home. Hang a Ukraine flag from your front porch. Vote straight ticket democrat and then complain about the elected officials. Accidentally leave laptops, purses and other valuables in your car overnight and then complain about auto crime.
You'll fit right in here.

Crime blown out of proportion a bit, but not blown out like you may be thinking. I am a "crime blown out of proportion" Nola lover, as it has been in the past.
Hopeful that new leadership and deadly force by citizen's will take back favorite city.

Just got back from 4 days there. The whole time downtown and in the quarter I saw less than 5 cops. Unreal. Not 1 on Bourbon

If I had to move to NOLA it would be to the Westbank.

Stick to the water areas and keep your head on a swivel and you will probably be fine.
Good to know....
I heard that the Industrial Canal/ Almonaster/Downman/Haynes Blvd areas had some great values on houses…

I'm considering moving to Matamoros Mx, went on Spring Break in 05 and it seemed safe

If you're considering Nola, then you should consider Somalia or Haiti.

NOLA is kind of like Miami.... Great if you have the money but awful if you don't.

Only way to enjoy it is to live above the bullshite. Little things like paying to have construction trash picked up in front of your house because 311 takes to long.
