Teammate out of college moved as a regular tennis coach living with 5 people in a 3 bedroom apartment.
12 years later he is GM for all of John McEnroe sport time properties. I’d say he made it

My sister did at 24 in 2006. Still there. Works in fashion and design.

If Brantley Foster can move there from Kansas and become Carlton Whitfield, then it’s possible. But his Aunt Vera gave him a leg up. I guess that was the secret of his success.

I did, but that was over 50 years ago when SOHO was still urban pioneering. Rented a 6000' floor for $600 a month and built it myself. My Ex still has it.
Not going to be much left in the production field with AI taking over so much of it. Most wannabe actresses are usually waitresses. Rent is crazy high.
NYC no longer has more than a few men in business suits.
She'll have plenty of young company though. Young people are about all I see on the streets of Manhattan these days.

anyone has any connections in the industry, hit me up please.
There’s a guy in this thread a few pages back that said he had a record label. Not sure which page but he may be of some help.

I have never seen the attraction to New York but many love it, it is their Mecca.
Lots of great restaurants. Dozens usually within walking distance.

To succeed in a place like that, you basically need to have at least 2 of the following 3 traits: tenacity, luck, connections.
Talent and serious skills are big factors. That's always been in demand.

Know two women who moved there. One became a partner in an engineering firm and one is a performer who went to Berklee. Their education and established connections were an advantage.

College alumni clubs in NYC a big these days. After Internet got well developed, the communication turned small groups into very big groups around their common school's sports and such.

What sort of work are you implying that she did?
I honestly don’t know what she did or does for a living.

She absolutely should not go. This country wasn't built on people chasing a dream and risking a move that might not turn out successfully. The Rant is constantly praising people that choose to stay within 10 miles of their hometown and avoid any kind of risk or career curiosity. This is how America was great and will be made great again.

I would keep her room warm for her.

I know a relative who did. Graduated in banking and moved there after college. Lasted about 4 years until Covid hit and it got weird up there. Moved back after that.

I knew a guy who lived on long island and worked behind the scenes in morning television. He’s an older guy but he would take the LIRR into the office the night before and sleep under his desk whenever there was a big storm or anything. He said it was his arse if he didn’t show up because of weather.
Actually know of a few big names that commute by car but they got that kind of loot and it’s probably a company driver or black car service.
As a newbie in NY and the business and needing to make connections in TV and food drink industry location is going to be pivotal to her success.
A good waitress can make bank at the right restaurant. How quickly you can get ready and be there when you get called to the big leagues (Friday and Saturday nights) might make the difference between making bank or peanuts.
Now that I think about it, TV and film and news and stuff I’m pretty sure is all union. Not sure how hard it is to join the union but it’s something to look into.

You’ll be able to see her on the pole within a couple of months.
