I’m looking for an apartment (or duplex) within a 30 minute commute, not a 4,000 sq foot lake house. The budget is fine.

My wife and I got offered good jobs there right out of college 12 years ago when that town was nothing. We didn’t and regret it constantly.

I'd recommend Round Rock probably.

Lol at people talking about 6th street. I’ve lived here 10 years and have only been to 6th street once. Locals don’t hang out in those dumps.

I’d live close to where you work. Lots of awesome hiking, biking, and running trails. Lots of active people. Lots of outstanding lakes all within a few minutes. Very clean. Low crime. It’s gotten a little crowded over the last 5 years, but you could drop an atomic bomb on it, and it’d still be better than Baton Rouge or New Orleans.

Round Rock is great but it’s nowhere near to this guy’s office.

I would recommend staying out of Williamson County. Most corrupt police force I’ve ever been associated with.

Is your office in Bee Cave the city (around 71 and 620) or on Bee Cave Rd. (most likely around 360)? In either case, I would suggest looking into apartments in the Barton Skyway/Spyglass area. You're a straight shot down Bee Cave to work but also really close to downtown, the greenbelt, and you have the original Tacodeli in your neighborhood. There are some older apartments in there that may not be the nicest but might be a good compromise between cost and location. I assume that you're single and will be going out a lot?

Double that for the Rangers. Can’t watch the Astros because of the whining fricking Rangers.

Update for you guys:

Things are finalized with the job offer and I’ll be starting work on April 8th. I’m going to be crashing at my in laws in Georgetown for a while because my wife has to stay in Dallas a little while longer to finish up some meetings at work. We’re looking to get our own place in May and are working with an apartment locator service we like.

We’ve narrowed it down with him to the South/Southwest areas and are willing to expand our budget to $1750 to get a nicer 2 bedroom (don’t worry, we can definitely afford it. I just don’t like spending more than I have to on an apartment). We are looking at everything from Barton Creek to the more secluded 78735 area code.

How far out is that from decent bars/restaurants? Obviously we’ll be able to get a better feel for the area once I’m down there and can drive around. Also traffic isn’t as big of a concern since I’ll be working a relatively early day (7 AM until 3 or 4). Anywhere to avoid down there?

I know traffic in Austin is a BITCH but I’m going away from downtown before rush hour starts. It won’t be as bad as trying to get downtown for 9 AM.

My wife works remotely so she won’t need to commute at all.

Check out Spyglass Dr area off Mopac. Nice apartments there and close to bars and restaurants.
