If we can figure out how to move a 2 million pound, 300ft long structure to Sasol in the middle of the night, we can figure out how to move some animals.
might be in the minority here, but what?

I am sure those people would be thrilled with the smell of animal shite.
Actually it would be pretty cool to live near the zoo. Had a friend during residency live on Exposition across from the zoo. It was pretty cool when you could see the giraffes

There was a thread on here a few days ago showing a video of a massive trailer moving a component to the new expansion of the Sasol plant in Lake Charles.
It was an impressive sight

Yeah well I would hope it's not described well bc if it is then I would fight this tooth and nail.
Trust me, it's not going there.
BREC, if they do ever move it, is going to put it on land they already own.
They already paid for the studies. The money they need to refurb the new zoo would be better spent building a new location that would attract more visitors. The locals who are crying racism don't even go to the zoo, at least not at the rate folks from other areas are going.

You mean like the 20 animals the zoo has?
Every time I go there, they have less and less. I'm pretty sure they stopped getting new animals some time ago.
I would just wait until most of these pass on, move what you can, bulldoze the rest of the place, and call it a day.

Fixed it. Racist POS.

If they move it, they should just convert the old zoo into a prison. It's already got the cages.

Last year some dogs got into the zoo and killed some monkeys. The BR Zoo is not in a high crime area, but it is in a very poor, predominantly African American area.

There is plenty of room between Brightside and Gourrier off of River Road that LSU owns that would be perfect for a joint BREC/LSU Vet partnership on this.
Only problem is, it makes too much sense.
In order to keep their designation as an agricultural college, LSU must have a certain acreage of farmland. This land with the livestock on it is crucial to that. Also without an agricultural designation we aren't allowed to house and care for exotic animals aka mike.

Gotcha. Well, the Jackson Zoo is in a high crime area. Very high.

Moving the BR Zoo
What ever happened to this proposal?

The last time this got real consideration someone sent dogs in to kill the monkeys. The zoo got the message.

Didn't the rhino try to get a head start earlier this week?

Interesting.
Well, Farr Park is already BREC owned and is right down the road.

I say put it in the Nicholson corridor and have LSU Vet School manage it. Give undergrad students real world training and become a beacon for zoo research
A zoo doesn't need an army of vets at its disposal. Yea it would be cool to have a link between the two but the vet students aren't going to get much on animal training with a zoo attached to it.
The BR zoo has an emergency vet on call and that's all it needs.
The zoo should move though.

Moving the BR Zoo
Somewhere close to I-10, Airline, or I-12 to be convenient to the people who go to the zoo.

The north BR politicians want to keep it north of town knowing it is way off the beaten path. They want to keep the amenity away from the white people.
Nevermind that the zoo depends on attendance to function.

In a poorer city, yet is still nicer than the BR zoo.
I know the Jackson Zoo isn't anywhere close to the Audobon, but it is leaps and bounds better than BR and the LA Purchase Zoo.
