So this is kind of a political thread, but not really about anything serious so here goes. I don't visit the poly forum, but if the mods want to move it, feel free.

The Utah legislature has proposed a bill to move the observance of Halloween to the last Friday in October.

quote:

The bill concludes “it is in the best interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the community to create a standard date for trick-or-treating in the state of Utah; and celebrating Halloween on a Friday could minimize the holiday’s negative impact on schools and learning.”

KSL News

Personally, I could live with it. Thoughts?

Just make Nov 1st a national holiday. While we are at it, let’s legislate that the Super Bowl needs to be played on a Saturday.

It is one fricking day. Give me a break

Make Nov 1 a Teacher Workday if it is that much of an issue.

No thanks. I want it either in a dome or in CA, AZ, or FL. I don’t want a blizzard to impact the Super Bowl and it gets too cold in TX and the south East.

And while we're at it, DST should end the Sunday before Halloween. Trick or treating in the daylight is lame...

Christmas next? What about the 4th of July? Oh that's right, these will be banned in the near future.

I don’t know what is daylight savings time vs standard to me and at this point in my life I’m scared to ask.

I just want the time to stay the same and stop changing.

You can't just move Halloween. It's the devil's birthday. It's not some made up holiday like Thanksgiving.

Why Friday if you're going to make a standard day? People have work, kids have school. Saturday makes infinitely more sense.

I understand moving "Trick or Treating" to any day, but I don't see how you can move "Halloween" to anything but Oct. 31st. It literally means All Hallows Eve, and the Catholic Diocese has Nov 1st as All Hallow's/Saints Day. I doubt there's many Catholics in Utah, but not sure how this paradigm shift would go down in Massachusetts, Louisiana et al...steeped in Catholic/Christian roots.
