Moving up North. Anyone have recommendations for moving companies? Would be a multi-day move. We may or may not request packing assistance but aren't sure yet.

Any info would be appreciated!

I haven't used them personally, but I know someone that used Abba Movers. They have different service options from doing a full move for you, or they can do a "labor only" move. That's where you have a truck and they come and load it up for you (that way you have custody and control over your stuff the entire time, which some people like). I heard they move safes too.

Atmosphere was awesome when I used them. Very reasonable and accommodating.

Not sure if you've moved yet or not, but I've used Three movers LINK / before and they were pretty good. No problems to speak of and they were cheaper than most of the others I saw. They offer packing help, storage, etc. if you need more than just moving too.

Not 2 men and a truck. I used them for a move and went 10 boxes over the estimated amount and they wanted to charge me 6k more for the extras. I ended up having to rent a uhaul to carry the extras so I didn't get gouged.

If I had to do it again I would do the packing myself and take care of the boxes and let them just handle the furniture.

No. Terrible and most everyone will tell u this.

Atmosphere wasn’t bad. None of them are going to move tour stuff like you would. Keep that in mind.

Abba.

Had to use a different company because I waited too long to book Abba.

The move took twice as long and was twice as expensive as the last time I used Abba.

I wont tell him this .. ive had good experiences w/Two Men & a Truck.

But the key is this- each of their locations is individually owned and franchised .. the ones i have had good experiences with will do a FLAT RATE for your move.. but some of them only do hourly.. if they charge you by the hour, you can expect their estimate to double or even triple by the time it’s all done... if it’s flat rate, then it doesnt matter to me if they drag arse since im not required to pay one cent more than the estimate.. btw companies who do flat rate are becoming more and more rare, though they do exist .

All that said, sounds like the OP has a long-distance, multi state move and most companies like Two men dont do long distance moves (in my experience) so he may have to wind up having to go with one of the big expensive movers like Atlas or Allied .

I will just say this about Atmosphere.

My sister used them to move a piano.

They no-showed twice I believe.

She left a review online.

Owner called and they moved the piano for free.

Go with a major carrier like United, Atlas, etc. They can do a virtual survey of your home for your quote. They can store your things at one of their facilities and they won’t hold your stuff hostage. The cheaper carriers are notorious for going way over their quote and then keeping your shipment until you pay the difference. Most reputable companies will not require a deposit. Make sure you research your carrier before signing anything.

Do not accept the lowest bid. I would recommend going with a major carrier.

I generally agree with this. However, it cost me around $8,000 to move from Metairie back to B.R. Not sure it was worth the additional cost.
