It shouldn't take 30 minutes to respond to a 911 call on Nicholson. I'd be upset too.
exactly. they wouldn't know about the DUI or speeding ahead of time.

I'm unfamiliar with this technology, so does the watch that dialed 911 have the ability to pinpoint the location of the emergency???
The call went through the watch (apparently) but wasn’t initiated by the watch. The call was initiated by Ford’s 911 assist. Apparently the recorded message includes GPS coordinates, but it doesn’t sound like it’s sending any continuous location info.
quote:
If so, then it's hard to believe it would take 30 minutes for police or EMS to arrive on the scene. What she needs to do is find out what time dispatch got the notification, what time units were dispatched and what time they actually arrived.
This is in the article:
quote:
1:37 a.m.: GPS coordinates of a vehicle wreck were sent to EBRSO after the crash response system in Jordan's car contacted law enforcement. There were two calls made and it was listed as a 911 call hang-up
1:41 a.m.: Dispatch sent a deputy to investigate the 911 hang-up on Nicholson. The incident log lists the deputy as four miles away, which is a maximum seven-minute drive time
2:01 a.m.: A deputy arrives at the scene
3:04 a.m.: Coroner arrives, Jordan is declared dead at the scene
Apparently the recorded message stopped playing the first time the dispatcher picked up, and it got logged as a 911 hang-up. The article says it then called back again about a minute later and played the message. Not sure if this influenced the response or not, but I wouldn’t be shocked if there are a shitload of erroneous 911 calls from these types of automated systems.
That being said, the following excerpt from the article.. ugh:
quote:
"I start from the beginning. I listen to the first call, the automated crash notification from my son's car, expecting only to hear the 911 operator's voice."
This time she heard something else.
"I'm thinking that I hear a response, so I listen to it and I'm thinking this can't be. Is my mind playing tricks on me? I listened to it over and over and over that night and I'm hearing in a low tone the word 'help'."
She played the call again for her husband and parents. They all believe they can hear a very faint voice say "Help me."
That is absolutely brutal if true. It’s a sad story all the way around. The guy shouldn’t have been driving under the influence or driving that fast, obviously. It seems unlikely that he would have made it even if the officer got there 5 minutes after the call.
At the same time, I can understand a grieving parent running through all of the “what if’s” of the situation.
ETA: The article says that the Ford 911 assist activates any time the airbags deploy. So I think it’s easy to look at it and go “frick man, you know the airbags were deployed.” But the 911 operator/dispatcher may not know exactly how that particular system works and as stated in the article, they get a shitload of accidental 911 calls/hang-ups.

My understanding he was so far off the road he was hard to find, but f taxes - 113 and drunk on Nicholson. Why are we not blaming the jackass who killed himself?
113 on Nicholson folks, and drunk, what part of this should society have to pay for. I don't want my taxes going to save a dumbass, when there are more legit issues and people that need help.

30 min to an unknown 911 call with no physical location or caller isnt unrealistic.
These things are prioritized.

Zip it Karen. We regret to inform you that your son is dead because he was stupid.

Case closed Johnson.
I don’t know. Maybe she can make something good out of her son dying from drunk driving. No 911 call should take 30 minutes for a response unless it’s in an extremely rural area. Her pushing this might save lives later.

This is the key detail. Would need to understand a lot more about this system and if the department was even required to respond.

i think everyone blames him for the crash.
not the response time

This is a tough situation because the driver is at fault for causing his death. However, he has a right to have been helped. It is ridiculous that it took this long to respond.
Municipalities should be responsible for their response times. I hope she sues, if for anything, to hold city emergency responders more accountable.

the amount of taxes we pay in this state, its easy to argue that we should be given better service.
Unless you want to outsource running this state to people from other states, the services will always suck arse.

Mother upset about response time for sons wreck
The mother needs to be thankful that the only person injured and/or killed in this incident is her drunk driving son. Fortunately for everyone the drunk didn't kill any innocent person. Drunk and driving 113 usually ends in multiple victims.

The driver never called 911.

the only good thing is he didn't kill anyone else with his reckless driving

The city received an emergency call. The city knows what generated the emergency call. The city has a responsibility to investigate the emergency call, and the city should be held accountable for the time it takes to do so.
Do you think it's ok for them to say "Well since the driver never called, we just took our time." This is the entire reason the technology exists. When it was launched, there was a commercial Apple made where a guy falls off his bike, is incapacitated and the watch calls 911. Maybe it should have said "Feature only available if the city you live in isn't shite."

Not trying to be a dick, but from what I've seen internally in multiple parish payrolls you could easily outsource to Texas workers at a discounted rate, and you would without question get better workers and become more efficient.
This is not an opinion for the record and there are many reasons why.
Folks would be shocked if they had just a measly 30 minutes to review, you could even throw a dart at the parish you want to review and you'd still be in shock at the information you'd be digesting.

An automated call. 98% of which are fake.

Just because someone invents technology doesn’t mean others have agreed to use it.
Did the city agree to use the technology?
Did apple say that there would be tens of thousands of fake calls departments would have to screen through?
You said the city should be sued and first responder both held accountable. That’s absurd to say without more information, which will still likely point to the response time being adequate given the circumstances.

Please point to this Right as defined by law in either state or federal law/constitution.
What he might have would be essentially a breach of contract with the local governing body. Emphasis on “might”.
Courts have already ruled, setting precedent, that police are NOT required to respond to situations. I doubt the court would find EMS obligated to respond to automated air bag calls too.
