What's your concern? It's her mom for Christ's sake.

Well then why not just have her there for the conception? I mean it's just her mom??

Yes. That really should just be a time for the father and mother.
Agree.

It's weird to me but it's the wife's call

Why would it be weird?

Why would it matter at all?

This was actually recommended to us by a nurse at Womans. She recommended no one but the mother and father for the first two hours after birth. Then let everyone come in once you are out of recovery and in a normal room.

When I worked mother/baby at Womans I would tell the mom and dad (when no other people were there) to feel free and let me know if they wanted visitors to leave. That I could be the "bad nurse" and tell everyone they needed to leave so mom and dad don't have to feel bad/awkward in asking everyone to leave.

People get so excited and naturally everyone wants to visit mom in the hospital after she has the baby. But sometimes they overstay their visit and the poor mom just needs time to rest or time to just bond with her husband and baby but instead is forced to smile and visit with everyone.

Forget with you. I waited and as soon as the baby popped out I hugged it, then get her mom and went to sleep.

Mother-in-law in delivery room
I had no problem with that at all. The issue we had is that my mom also wanted to be in delivery room. Didn't happen

I can remember having to go examine a new mom to make sure her stitches were ok. Meaning I need to get a good look at her vagina and she needed some privacy for this. You would think family would take that a clue to step out...nope they insisted on staying. Even after I gently asked if they might step out or at least stand behind the curtain. It was the patient's brother in law that didn't want to leave. Just weird.

This might possibly be the most uncomfortable thing she ever does in her life.

Well, except for the conception. I bet the midget she was okay with, but the donkey crossed the line.

This means he was the new patient's father.

Some of you people are seriously fricking damaged. Good God, man

And some of you are extremely naive and/or oblivious to what is going on around you. If you don’t think that the wife and MIL had conversations about how to get the baby daddy to agree to “their” birth plan, then you are a fool. That is the definition of ganging up on someone.

My mother in law sat in my sons delivery 9 years ago and my marriage has been fine since. No ganging up on me

Luckily both of ours came so fast that MIL didn't make it in time

Ours was so quick (and in the middle of the night) that he was born before almost anyone even replied to my text saying we were at the hospital and the baby was coming soon.

My MIL also lives 1,000 miles away and the baby was 6 weeks early, so no chance for her to be there. Not that she would have been welcome in the delivery room anyway, but that was my wife's call, not mine.

I told my mother in law to GTFO and go be in charge of the waiting room. Went fine.

The birth part isn't that bad. The afterbirth is kind of like when you dump the guts when cleaning a deer.
