Let me get this straight, the majority of people on here are perfectly fine with mom fricking son as long as they can't reproduce? I've been up all night and my mind is a little foggy but that's what I'm getting from these posts.

Doesn't affect me.

And I'm in an argumentative mood this morning. I don't agree with incest, of course, but using the same logic as other issues, it is hard to keep it illegal.

Listen I'm all for the government staying out of my home as much as possible. I'm not sure what my argument is here except that it's just icky

Exactly. Saying something should be legal, and morally agreeing with it are two different things

At least they should be. But these "small govt" republicans in here sure can't seem to differentiate the two

You're not making any sense. It boils down to you simply finding one ok and the other not. Your support for the position is poor at best.

Homosexuality used to be a crime. There used to be science to justify it. On top of that, there was (and still is) the taboo surrounding it. Now, we have a different mentality towards it, especially since lots of the scientific conclusions were found to be irrelevant or just plain untrue. You can say the view from "back in the day" is outdated and not necessarily supported by science.

Now take incest. it is a crime. The scientific justification is "you would have a bunch of retard babies". It also has a taboo associated with it. But, really, the science doesn't support that you would have a "bunch of retard or deformed babies". The studies don't necessarily show that. Now that the scientific justification doesn't hold up, you are really left with the taboo.

Whether you like it or not, there are similarities.

And even if you assume the science is correct, are you then in favor of making, say, alcohol illegal? Look at what alcohol does to people and families, completely destroys I'm assuming millions every year. If you're against incest for that reason, logically speaking, how can you NOT be against alcohol?

It comes down the moral thing, like you said. And our government should not be governing morality, in any way, shape, or form.

I completely agree that the government should not govern morality. But is morality really what we are basing our opinions on when it comes to incest? It feels like it's bigger than just being immoral.

My point is that gay marriage being legal will not lead to incest being socially acceptable and that the two aren't related (pun intended).

That's it, really.

People who connect the two are bitter that gays can get married.

ETA:

I'm actually very pro-small government, but the relationship of a nurturer/parent/authority figure over a child can remove the consent of said child for the relationship. That is a parent taking advantage of their child.

If siblings want to frick, I guess that is different. Wholly gross, but different.

Like what, exactly?

I mean yea, it's completely freaking deplorable, obviously. I'm just of the thought that if something has no adverse affects on me or others(victimless "crime"), it should not be against the law. Can that be applicable in a perfect world, I don't know, maybe not. Or I guess it is in a perfect world, but maybe in the real world, but you get the point.

Absolutely not

Explain what that has to do with anything? I wouldn't frick John from the office either. That's legal.

I'm not really sure about an explanation. I'm a husband and a father. My wife and I have 2 sons. The thought of a parent having sex with their child is reprehensible in my opinion. It doesn't matter if the child is at the age of consent or not. To me that goes beyond the bounds of just being immoral.

What you are describing is morality It is disgusting and strange on the highest level. But that is due to our moral compass telling us that
