Most underrated geo-political moment in your lifetime

Has to be USA defeating USSR in Olympic Hockey 1980.
Communism was still trying to exert itself worldwide, US after Nam, Watergate, inflation and "a malaize" wasn't in much a position to challenge.
This game, the moment, the pride it gave to a Nation that realistically made it more than it was, but once it meant more, the more it meant.
I think it did more for the Amercian psyche than was realized at the time in hindsight it was the first of some BIG WINS for the US
also my first Penthouse ,, changed my life

That event wasn't underrated at all. It was huge. I remember it clearly and I was 8 years old at the time. All anyone talked about was the hockey team going for gold at that time.
Probably the greatest upset in all of sports since at that time athletes were supposed to be "amateurs" which meant college athletes in the US. In Communist countries it always meant their very best because they didn't have professional athletes in the sense we did anyway.

The most dramatic change I've seen has been the acceptance of homosexuality. Can't really pin that on a specific moment but when I was in high school people sure as hell wouldn't admit they were gay and didn't want to be gay. It was pretty much thought of as a mental disorder that could be cured.

The thing is, it was pretty accepted for a long time in many a parts of the world. Hell, ancient Greece was fine with you taking a young boy in.
