Right
When I think of liberal, I think of Denver, Seattle, Austin, Portland, etc.
New Orleans, Jackson, Memphis, etc. are just ran by Democrats

And people mentioned Athens which is part of the Atlanta metro statistical area.
Incorrect.
Athens has it's own MSA.
wikipedia link LINK
And the correct answer to OP is Athens.
ETA- there is such a thing as a "combined statistical area" which includes Athens, but the "metropolitan statistical area" that you referenced does not.

They are extremely socially conservative

Charlotte, NC I don't consider Texas as the South
No way. Sure the mayor and the city council are all Democrats, but make no mistake, you don’t get in the way of growth or interfere in commerce here.
The prog left is basically non-existent. Sure some nutsbags will show up crying about gentrification, some councilmen will talk a good game, and then they unanimously approve some new luxury apartment project, if the developer throws a little coin into the affordable housing fund.
Rinse and repeat

Jackson MS has the highest percentage of Democratic voters, probably outside of Newark NJ.
Liberal cities in the south - Atlanta, Asheville, and New Orleans. Remember South Florida ain't in this category.

I lived there for 7 years. It is the truth. All of the rich neighborhoods were almost 100% republican. The apartment complexes, poor areas, and tattooed bar tenders were your liberals.

New Orleans, a city with two universities, a major LGBT scene, a major music and arts scene, isn't liberal?

Big gay district, large national gay festival actually, lax drinking laws, fairly large art scene, etc

Also, Nashville is definitely "blue", but there is big, old money here that still runs shite.
The young people who move here are mostly from the Southeast (me included) and they are probably 95% moderates split evenly down the aisle.
But the LA folks and Northeasterners are certainly making an impact at the polls and we have more black people than most realize, they're just kind of hidden from tourists and the nice neighborhoods.
The big money conservative folks that founded and built this city still win on the major ballot items though. They still fill the political coffers when things affect their bank accounts or way of life.
Agree with this. Nashville definitely has an artsy more liberal scene to it, but the power and money in the town are largely conservative.
If you polled the 20,000 people at Steeplechase their political affiliation, I'd guess it would be overwhelmingly conservative. The Belle Meade/Brentwood/Franklin area is very red.

Completely forgot about UNO. Honestly, Tulane and Loyola are the only two that come to mind when I think about New Orleans.

Pretty much every city of size is blue.
That's not even remotely close to being true.
