Ok...not mine personally...but my brother sat down and had a beer with John Prine at a bar in Nashville. Nobody else there knew who the hell he was.

Mid 70s, stepped into an elevator at Ochner in New Orleans with my brother. Jimmy Davis was in there. He signed my brothers cast.

Late 70s. Billy Carter at a street party at Southdowns. He sat behind a table and they kept him supplied with beer. Don't remember him speaking, just sat there. I kind of felt sorry for him.

I have had the opportunity to shake a few famous hands but I guess the one I get a chuckle out of was meeting G Gordon Liddy. A truly fascinating guy but also a little scary.

You mean, "Commander's sidekicks", don't you?

(at self)

In all seriousness, those guys were heroes in every facet of the term.

They're almost all gone, now, CB. Mrs. Midnight and I just finished a rewatch of HBO's excellent, From the Earth to the Moon - only Borman, Lovell, McDivitt and Stafford left from Astronaut Group 2 (New Nine/Next Nine). No moonwalkers survive from that group.

AG3 (The Fourteen) are a little younger, but only 5 of them survive, including moonwalkers Aldrin and Scott.

I think it's down to just those 2, plus Schmitt (Group 4) and Duke (Group 5) who walked on the Moon and still live. Heck, for as much space stuff I consume, one would think I would have found a way to meet at least one of them, but no.

(And both Fredo and Ken Mattingly are still alive.)
